LYLE DOUGLAS SKINNER

May 7, 1944 - February 6, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lyle Douglas Skinner, who departed peacefully on February 6, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Lyle is survived by his wife of 52 years, Arleen, and children, Jeremy (Lily Rose), Patrick (Earl), Courtney (Michelle), and Graeme (Imee), as well as his brother Leslie and sister Claudia. He is also survived by his precious grandchildren, Beatrice, William, Gavin, and Geoff, who brought immense joy to his life.

Lyle was born in Virden, Manitoba to William and Elsie Skinner. He grew up on the family farm and attended university in Brandon and Winnipeg before starting a long career with the Energy and Mines department of the provincial government.

Lyle had a rare gift for connecting with others, demonstrating empathy and acceptance to people from all walks of life. His caring nature led him to devote many years of service to community organizations, including the United Way and Klinic, where he provided counselling and comfort for those in need. He also volunteered with the Winnipeg Folk Festival, Irish Association, Age and Opportunity, and community radio stations, where he was able to share his passion for music.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Saint James Lutheran Church, 871 Cavalier Drive with a private interment to follow.

The family would like to thank the team of doctors, nurses, and specialists at the Grace Hospital Intensive Care Unit, whose dedication, compassion, and kindness were a source of comfort to Lyle and his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Grace Hospital Foundation.

As we say goodbye to Lyle, let us remember the quiet kindness and guidance he imparted. Rest in peace, dear Lyle. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • So sorry to hear of the passing of Lyle. I first met Lyle when he was assigned my shift supervisor for the Klinic Crisis Lines. His calmness and guidance for all the staff and volunteers on shift was invaluable. Our relationship continued through my H.R. role and our futile attempts as Klinic staff to win the Lotto Max! Wonderful man, thoughts and prayers to your family. - Posted by: Wendy Neplyk (co-worker) on: Feb 12, 2025
