Date of Passing: Jan 24, 2025
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySIDNEY EARL STOREY
In the early hours of January 24, 2025, Sidney "Syd" Storey passed away peacefully, after spending the day with family and friends at his side.
Syd is survived by his partner, Violetta Adamczyk, and his son, Jarrett Storey (Joanne). Syd was predeceased by his mother and father, Veronica (2001) and Earl (1981), and his sister, Diane (2024).
Syd was born on September 10, 1947, and grew up in the West End before the family moved to Westwood. Syd was a natural and gifted athlete in his youth in golf and basketball.
In 1975 at the University of Winnipeg, Syd attained his Chartered Accountant's designation. He went on to establish a career that earned him the reputation of being a bright, entrepreneurial spirit in the business sector of Winnipeg.
Syd loved Winnipeg, and advocated for the city and its people tirelessly, becoming involved in projects that he believed in fiercely. His passion brought him into contact with people from all walks of life, many of whom became lifelong friends.
In his later years, Syd established Fairtax Realty Advocates, a successful property and business tax consulting and realty appeals firm, where he worked alongside his son.
While earnest in business, Syd found time for his other interests. Early on, he developed his lifelong love of thoroughbred racing, owning several horses with his partner Garth Grieder. His dogs Rocco and Tia were his constant companions and always accompanied him when he travelled for work or pleasure.
Syd was very kind, and he cared deeply for the people in his life. He never missed an opportunity to help the people around him. He had an easy smile, an inviting heart, boundless energy and unending optimism. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. He was uniquely brilliant and a friend to all.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Syd's name to Parkinson Canada or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff in the ICU and ACU departments at the St. Boniface Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.
Please join us for a Celebration of Syd's life at the Fort Garry Hotel on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

Syd was the rain maker and I was the follow up act. How he met people in business and found their business pain and turned them into clients never seized to amaze us. Always late because he never thought cross city driving took time. I’m thinking about the laughing and the comb over and his spirit. I would say rest in peace but resting wasn’t his way. - Posted by: Jim Baker (Former accounting Partner and Fry) on: Mar 05, 2025

I met Syd at U of W during my 1 st year of a 4 year appraisal designation through The Appraisal Institute of Canada. He was a very kind generous man and loved to see people excel. Syd was absolutely brilliant, had the gift and logic in explaining numbers and negotiating. Very successful at tax appeals in commercial , investment , industrial properties and for high-end single-family dwellings. He had tremendous energy and would call me at 10:30 or 11 PM at night and bounce ideas of me , he was always thinking and planning. Syd Storey was well know across the Country and USA at the Board of revision and municipal boards. We developed a long-term genuine relationship. He loved his wife, son and family & friends very much, he will be missed. Cole Castelane and Family - Posted by: Cole Castelane (Mentor and Friend) on: Mar 04, 2025

Condolences to the Storey Family....it was my pleasure to have known Syd for a number of years thru the board of revision when he presented many of his client appeals. His vast knowledge of the Winnipeg was unpresented and so were the stories. He was a great individual and first class all the way....shall miss him...rest in peace....my friend..... - Posted by: ronald lenard merritt (friend) on: Feb 18, 2025

My parents Peter & Anastasia Buzunis were long time clients and friends of Mr. Storey. I believe he was also a long term tenant in my parents office building on Portage Avenue where I first met him. My parents always had wonderful things to say about him and I know that if they were still with us they would be deeply saddened by his passing. May his memory be eternal! - Posted by: Constantine Buzunis (Acquaintance) on: Feb 16, 2025

Syd was my brother in law for a couple of decades when married to my sister Rita. I could easily see he was a remarkable fellow, transparently gifted and we certainly spent enough time in each others company. Although my profession is intellectual communication and Syd was certainly one of the brightest guys I ever ran with, not once did we ever have what I call a serious conversation. I found that very remarkable and unique in my experience. It has served as one of those mysteries of my experience. Syd Storey Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Patrick Jamieson (Former brother in law) on: Feb 15, 2025
