DAVID JOHN PASKEWITZ

May 26, 1953 - February 3, 2025

With family by his side, David passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, at Boissevain Hospital after a brief illness.

Dave was born on May 26, 1953, at the Brandon General Hospital, the first child of Reynold & Phyllis (Brown) Paskewitz. Dave and his three siblings, Vince, Moya and Neil were raised on a farm near Ninette before moving to Brandon.

In 1967, Dave’s parents established Meadowlark Campground on Highway #1 in Brandon, when Dave was 14 years old. A family business combined with the outdoors was a dream come true for the young Paskewitz family. After being with Manitoba Hydro as an electrical maintenance technician, Dave returned to the family business in 1975.

In 1978, Dave married Fay Brandon, from Carberry, MB, and they worked alongside Rey and Phyllis to run the campground. Dave and Fay took over the business in 1996, and along with their children, Amanda, Ken and Christie, they continued the Paskewitz legacy, to make Meadowlark Campground a place people would continue coming back to. Many campers became like family, as well as the residents of Meadowlark Trailer Park.

After retirement in 2015, Dave and Fay moved to Boissevain where Dave enjoyed flying his RC planes and was a faithful parishioner and active volunteer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Dave enjoyed travelling in their motorhome, spending time with their grandkids in Yorkton and Boissevain, and was always ready to lend a hand with his toolbelt.

Dave is survived by his wife, Fay (nee Brandon); children, Amanda (Brandon Penner), Ken (Kelsey), Christie (Jason Smith); and grandchildren, Emery, Davis and Greydon Smith, Olivia and Hadley Paskewitz, Dylan and Riley Penner. Siblings, Vince (Diane), Moya (Neil Tarr) and Neil (Nancy); sister-in-law, Lynne (Brian Manns) and brother-in-law, Lon Brandon; aunt, Janette Brown; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, Rey and Phyllis Paskewitz; and in-laws, Milford and Winnie Brandon.

A memorial service was held on February 18, 2025 in Boissevain.

Donations in memory of Dave may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Boissevain Health Centre Palliative Care or to a charity of one’s choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dave was a man we looked up to when we joined the Campground Association. He ran a good, honest, well maintained and managed campground. We became not only co-campground owners but good friends with him and his wife Fay. We travelled together and had each other over at our places. He will be missed. A good man, father, husband and friend. Cherish the memories. We feel blessed to have know him and his awesome family. Especially our dear friend Fay. Always in our hearts. - Posted by: Agnes & JP Gosselin (Friend) on: Feb 23, 2025

  • We wish to express our condolences to Faye and the entire Paskewicz family. Dave and Faye were an important and reliable family at St. Augustine’s church where we got to know you and your family. I have fond memories of when Meadowlark campground was first opened while hanging out with Moya and hanging out with Vince and Diane when we were a bit older. Dave was always the reliable and protective older brother ever present and successfully continuing the family business. We are very sad to hear of his passing. Sincerely, Cathy and Ralph Redfern - Posted by: Cathy and Ralph Redfern (Friend) on: Feb 22, 2025
