Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH MARTHA SACK
With sadness, we announce the passing of Elizabeth, much-beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Bow Crest Care Centre in Calgary, AB, at the age of 83 years.
Elizabeth leaves behind her loving husband of 59 years, Paul Sack, her son, Sean, her daughters, Patricia (Grant) and Lisa (Brad); and her cherished grandchildren, Conor and Emily.
Elizabeth was born in Winnipeg, MB, on July 26, 1941, and grew up in the neighbourhood of St. Vital, attending Glenwood School and Glenlawn Collegiate. After receiving her LPN designation from the St. Boniface School of Nursing, Elizabeth worked for over 20 years at St. Boniface Hospital in the maternity ward, leaving in 1993 to work at Poseidon Care Centre until her retirement in 2006. During her time as a nurse, Elizabeth became involved with the Manitoba Nurses Union, first as a ward representative at St. Boniface Hospital, and later as president of the nurse’s union at Poseidon until her retirement. She was known for her “quiet advocacy” of the vital role LPNs provide in the health care system.
On Sundays, Elizabeth volunteered for 15 years at St. Mary’s Road United Church, teaching preschool-age children.
Upon her retirement in 2006, Elizabeth and Paul moved west to Calgary, AB, to be closer to their two grandchildren. She devoted her retirement years to her beloved grandchildren, taking them on outings, reading the same books over and over, and sneaking them Timbits.
In compliance with Elizabeth’s wishes, no funeral service will be held.
The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Heather Taylor and all the caring and dedicated caregivers at Bow Crest Care Centre for their wonderful support.
“O God, I thank thee for all the joy I have had in this life.”

My condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of working with Liz many years ago on what was then known as 3A. We shared many laughs but none was better than when she was reprimanding Sean and Patricia on the phone during her break! Liz was also famous for her chocolate chip cookies! She was a good nurse and cared for all of her moms and babies. May you all find comfort thinking of the good times you shared together. - Posted by: Pam Wazney (Coworker) on: Feb 26, 2025
