DEANNA BERNICE MCKINNON

(nee HORN)

It is with great sadness that, at the age of 87, Deanna McKinnon of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Community on February 25, 2025, with her son Colin and his wife Kristina by her side.

Deanna was predeceased by her parents, Rhynard and Bernice Horn, and her brothers, Gerald, Donald, Malcolm, Cameron and Reginald.

She was a loving mother and friend whose memory will be cherished by her son Colin and his wife Kristina, sisters-in-law, Linda Horn, Barb Horn, Jane Horn and extended family and many close friends including Mary Hurley and Karen Toole.

Deanna was born at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 15, 1937, and grew up in southern Manitoba in the Oak Bluff area. She went on to attend teachers' college in Winnipeg. Upon completion of teachers' college, she started her teaching career near Killarney in a one room school, then in Balmoral, and eventually moved to Winnipeg to teach, get married and start her family. Deanna treasured time with family more than anything, most of all her son Colin. She was an incredibly creative person who always managed to find the time to make magnificent creations for those she loved such as Halloween costumes, adorable toys and the most charming holiday decorations to name a few.

A teacher at heart, she was always interested in the opportunity to learn and expand her knowledge, meet new people and share experiences and new ideas. Deanna had many dear friends and those who knew her best were fortunate to experience her warm spirit and caring heart. She loved going for walks in the Wolseley area and her visits with Colin and Kristina and their dog Berkeley on the weekends. She was an avid Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan and always had an up-to-date roster nearby.

To my Mom, the love, knowledge, guidance and support you provided me throughout my life comforts me and I am forever grateful that you were my Mom. I love you and will greatly miss our visits and laughs together. - Colin

The family would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba and the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Community for their support.

At Deanna's request a service will not be held.
