JOHN HEATH

In peace, at a time of his own choosing, February 18, 2025, John Heath passed away.

Left with memories are his wife Jonnette (Czehryn), son David and his wife Su Byn and their son Drake of Freising, Germany, Chad (Cynthia), Mark, brother Joe and his family, sister-in-law Paulette Cote, brother-in-law Peter Czehryn and their family. He was predeceased by his son Chris in 1988.

Professionally, John was a Writer initially as a reporter for The Winnipeg Free Press and later for various Provincial Government departments authoring items as diverse as press releases and air brake manuals.

His avocation, however, was as a Reader. His interest in contemporary political and economic publications led to some "lively" discussions. Ironically, John died in I "Love to Read" month - so many books, so little time.

To John, the responsibilities of raising a large family was never a source of stress, but instead a conduit for joy. Though he never hesitated to express his admiration for what his family members accomplished, he refused to take any credit for these achievements despite the role his example and inspiration played in making them possible.

John was grateful for the love and support from fiends and family during his last days. Paulette, Peter, Jeannette, Andy, Judy, Gerry, Mary, and Bernie - Thank you all.

Honouring John's wishes there will be no formal services, but if friends wish, memorial donations may be made to The Canadian Hemophilia Society Manitoba Chapter 1400 Ellice or a charity of one's choice.

  • I am sorry to hear of John’s passing. I think of John and Jonnette so often, as they were constant friends and support to my mother in her final years. • What a loss for Jonnette and his family....spent many times together, laughing, sharing stories, and traveling to see each other. Pam and I will miss him. - Posted by: Marcia Hoch (friend and cousin) on: Mar 13, 2025

  • John was a good friend when we were University students at United College, now University of Winnipeg. He made a difference in my life because of all his ideas about people, politics, the press, and general ways of thinking that meant he was a man way ahead of this time. The world will miss him!! - Posted by: Bruce Hutchison (Friend back in University days) on: Mar 11, 2025
