With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Richard Michael Dreger on February 28, 2025, at Grace Hospice at the age of 68.
Rick was born on August 29, 1956, in Morris, Manitoba. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1959. After graduation, Rick worked as an electrician, but soon left the profession as his real interest lay in photography which led him to a long career at Jostens. The many photographs he took will remain a constant reminder of the beauty of every day life that he captured.
He was a quiet, deliberate individual with many interests and was always planning new adventures. He went on wilderness canoe trips, obtained his gliders license with the Winnipeg Flying Club, enjoyed rock climbing in Ontario and was a serious weightlifter in the gym. He was an avid and knowledgeable music lover and cars were his passion. When he retired from Jostens, he went up north to work on the Census in remote communities. He took up beekeeping with a good friend and enjoyed selling his honey at local farmers markets. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time in the kitchen baking and cooking many delicious foods. Many weekends were spent enjoying time at the cabin in Belair.
Rick had a steadfast love for his family and a genuine willingness to help out anyone. In 2012, after his father’s passing, he became a full-time caregiver for his Mother. Throughout his life and despite his diagnosis, he always maintained a positive attitude.
He is survived by his mother Olga, sister Debra, nieces, Anisa (Charlie), Sarah (Carson) and grandniece Kennedy as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Wilfred in 2012.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
Thank you to the staff at Grace Hospice for their kindness and excellent care. Thank you to relatives and good friends who always visited.
