DOREEN ST. CATHERINE DEW

(nee LAURIE)

On Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Victoria General Hospital, Doreen, of Winnipeg, peacefully left us after 99 years.

Doreen lived a full life of love, experiencing historical events and participating in an unfolding modern world that most people only read about in a classroom. Doreen was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and crossed the ocean three years later to arrive at her mother (Minnie) and father's (Percival) home in Canada.

She will be dearly remembered by her children, Brent, Brenda, and Russell, along with relatives and many friends.

Mom was predeceased by her husband James.

Doreen was a wise, witty, and tough veteran who could balance working as the VP of a family business with domestic life as a wife and mother of three.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place, and no service will be held. Donations to a charity of your choice in place of flowers would be appreciated.

  • My sincerest condolences go out to Russell, Brent & Brenda. I loved your parents so much! Sleepovers at your house were so much fun, playing with you as kids, enjoying all your cool toys and being included in the warm home life Aunty Doreen created. During WWII Aunty Doreen had joined the CWACs… Canadian Women’s Army Corp… to do her bit for the war effort. I loved chatting with her about that. Later she had moved to Calgary for work before Uncle Jim decided he couldn’t live without her and she returned to Winnipeg and married the love of her life. During the years the couple owned the car wash and I slept over at the Dew home, I loved to help Aunty Doreen in her even task of rolling coins. This was such a wonderful activity because she shared so many great stories about her life and that of our other family members. She was awesome! - Posted by: Donna Alexander Zwicker (Niece) on: Mar 08, 2025
