BRIAN MAGUIRE

September 4, 1946-February 15, 2025

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of William Brian Maguire at the age of 78.

Predeceased by his brother Robert and parents, William and Ethel, Brian was a devoted husband to Linda, father to his beloved daughter Rachel and caring brother-in-law to Leslee.

Brian is remembered for his great sense of camaraderie by his friends and family, among them Hal, Bob, Bill and Ken, some of whom he met faithfully for many years every Friday afternoon at the Silver Heights Lounge.

He was known for his “integrity”, and as a “very dedicated accountant” in Steinbach and Winnipeg, who “worked all night if he had to”. A student of Gorden Bell High School, he grew up on Dominion Street and graduated from University of Manitoba as an RIA - a career he relished all his life.

Brian had a bit of the Irish storyteller in him and especially liked to discuss the week’s news and his favourite historical novels. He loved his Cadillacs, watching hockey from his BIG reclining chair, and especially, trading winter in Winnipeg for Las Vegas for many years. He was an avid barbecuer and adored relaxing by his outdoor pool in Charleswood, watching his daughter swim while enjoying Linda’s coleslaw and garlic bread.

Most recently, Brian was a resident at Beauchemin Park Place where he is remembered for "his smiles” and “lively conversation with the ladies.”

A celebration of Brian Maguire’s life will be announced at a later date.

He remains in our hearts always.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Brian was a funny guy. Always had a sarcastic or funny thing to say when he was driving Rachel and I around in his fancy car. He had a fun and laid back personality around me and I will always remember coming over to Rachel’s house after school (or during school when we should have been in class) and he would be sitting in his massive basement recliner having a beer! Rest in peace Brian! Have a beer for Rachel and me. Watch over her for me <3 - Posted by: Sondra (Childhood friends dad) on: Mar 31, 2025

  • Brian and I worked together over 50 years ago and immediately became fast friends. When we moved to new jobs we still stayed in touch sharing lunches together over the years. Once we retired we would get together every week for lunch to solve the world’s problems. Brian had a great sense of humour but he was always up to date on everything to do with finance and politics. He truly was a good friend who will be sorely missed by myself and other loved ones. Rest in Peace Brian - Posted by: Bob Acheson (Friend) on: Mar 19, 2025

  • I am so sorry to hear of Brian’s passing. It was always a pleasure to be in Brian’s company. He was a kind and gentle person, always happy and ready to share a laugh and a story with you. Being a cousin, I remember with fondness the times our families spent together growing up, and then bumping into each other in later years as we lived in the same neighbourhood. I will remember his gentleness, smiles and laughter. He made the world a better place. - Posted by: Gail Fisher (First cousin) on: Mar 15, 2025

  • Brian, You will be missed, not only on Friday luncheons, but extensively for our childhood stories growing up. You had such a good memory of the “good old days”. You were always so interesting to reminisce with. Take care My Friend. - Posted by: Ken. Roy (Cousin) on: Mar 15, 2025
