We are saddened to announce the passing of Ron Murray.
Predeceased by his older brother Denis, his niece Sharon, and his nephew Leonard, he is survived by his wife Yoko (Sasaki), brother Brian (Yuan), sister Cathy (Ian), and several nieces and nephews.
Ron was born in Winnipeg to Len and Mae (Nichol) Murray where he developed his love and skill for playing hockey. He had the heart of an adventurer and left Winnipeg to enlist in the U.S. Marines where he completed his three year term. After that, he settled in San Francisco where he studied at night to obtain his Accountancy degree. By the mid-1970s, he was ready to return to Canada and settled in Vancouver where his family had relocated. Soon, the adventurer’s bug took hold again and he went to Japan intending to stay for six weeks, where he met his wife and subsequently stayed for another 20 plus years. He obtained his Master’s degree in Humanities and had a successful career as an associate professor at several Japanese universities and colleges. Home beckoned once again and he and his wife relocated back to Vancouver. Ron loved retirement and cats and spent many years volunteering at the Richmond Animal Protection Society.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Pinegrove Place, where he lived for the last several years as he fought dementia.
No service by request.
