TADEUSZ (TED) NOWAK

Peacefully, with his family by his side, Tadeusz passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025, in Winnipeg at the age of 81 years.

He was predeceased by his wife Edyta Nowak. Tadeusz will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Elizabeth (Peter) of Oakville, Ontario and grandchildren, Mark and Sophia. He also leaves behind his sister Jadwiga Nowak; brother-in-law Jacob Czosnek (Zofia) and their children, Anna (William), Matthew and Andrew as well as extended family members in Canada and Poland. Tadeusz was born and raised in Poland, moving to Canada and settling in Winnipeg in 1969 to join his wife Edyta.

Ted was a sports enthusiast, and his love of soccer was well known. He left his hometown at a young age to attend boarding school to play competitive soccer. When he moved to Canada, he continued to play soccer and upon retiring as a player he volunteered, eventually serving as the Commissioner of the Molson Super Soccer Alliance. He was committed to his fitness and was regularly seen at the Wellness Institute where he spoke fondly of his “Wellness friends”.

Ted had a work ethic like no other. He was trained as a machinist and in the latter stage of his work life he worked in sales. As a hobby gardener, Ted loved to tend to his garden and was proud of his fruit trees and tomato plants. Ted was an avid traveler and made many trips back to Poland to visit his parents and extended family. He and Edyta loved to travel and one of their favourite destinations was Bermuda where he travelled many times to visit Elizabeth, Peter and his grandchildren. Mark and Sophia were his pride and joy and some special moments he spent with them in recent months were attending Sophia’s high school graduation and her final dance recital; and attending his first professional soccer game in Canada when Mark took him to see a Toronto FC game. He was happy to see them thriving in university.

Ted’s family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Grace Hospital for their kindness and excellent care.

A private memorial service was held at Cropo Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Ted’s final resting place will be in Oakville, Ontario joining his beloved wife Edyta.

Tadeusz was a generous donor to many charities over the years. In honour of his memory, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

  • Like many of us, we got to know Ted through playing soccer as he was heavily involved with the community and in taking care of the fields. You could have a laugh with him at any time. One of those guys that loved football and he’d be seen at almost every game that was played. I haven’t seen Ted in many years but when old stories of football past are brought up, Ted’s name with be mentioned too. Everyone knew who he was. He was quite a character and I’m glad I got to know him. - Posted by: John Baillie (Acquaintance) on: Mar 18, 2025

  • Dearest Ela and family. My sincere condolences on the passing of your beloved father and grandfather. I knew Ted from the first days he came to Canada. We enjoyed many parties on Atlantic Ave. where we danced, laughed and ate delicious food. We enjoyed going to many soccer tournaments, watching the games cheering our team and then partying in the hotel. Ted and Edyta visited us a few times in Montreal. It was great to have them and to reminisce about family and friends. A few years ago we spent a lovely time with Ted in Hawaii. He was a great man and a true friend. Ela you were the apple of his eye. He was so proud of you. Mark and Sophia were the loves of his life. He was the proudest grandfather. Stay strong. May God grant him eternal peace. - Posted by: Roma Dziarmaga (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2025
