GUIDO BIONDI

October 19, 1935 - March 12, 2025

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Guido Biondi on March 12, 2025. Guido is survived by Janice, his beloved wife of 60 years, his daughters Joanna and Laureen, son-in-law Greg Wilson, and his cherished grandchildren, Matteo and Chiara. He leaves behind a family who adored him: sister-in-law Evalina Biondi, and nieces and nephews Luciano Guffei, Anna Gabriele (Juan), Roselba Biondi (Alfonso Forte), Claudio Biondi (Lucia Persichetti) Maria Leydon (Ken), Anthony (Kelly). He was blessed with an abundance of cousins, great nieces and nephews from Italy, Luxembourg, Toronto, Calgary and New York. Great-nephew and great-niece, Jeff and Jennifer Gabriele, always took the time to visit and check up on Zio Guido.

Guido was predeceased by his parents Nicola Biondi and Giovanna Forte, brothers Carmine and Guiseppe, and sister Angelina Guffei, as well as sister-in-law Gina Romano and brother-in-law Nicola Guffei, and most recently, the devastating loss of his son-in-law, Arch Honigman, his daughter Joanna’s husband.

Guido was born on October 19, 1935, the fourth child of Nicola and Giovanna in the charming and beautiful medieval village of Castelpetroso, Molise, Italy. Guido loved and adored his brothers and sister. They always looked after each other and had an unbreakable bond. Guido entered this world with humble beginnings and endured the struggles of the Second World War and its lingering impact. As a young boy, he excelled in school, as academics were important to him. He was often found racing his Bianchi bike in hope of winning cash prizes. As a child he was infatuated with music and loved to dance. In his final days, he could be heard belting out songs from his hospital room.

In the summer of 1958, Guido and his older brother, Carmine, came to Winnipeg to work hard, make quick cash and then return home for a better life. But life had other plans and Guido made Winnipeg his home. In 1965, Guido and Janice were married at Holy Rosary Church in Winnipeg. Guido got his wish to renew his vows 50 years later in his hometown at Chiesa di San Martino, where he was also baptized.

Guido worked various jobs, sometimes three at a time. He was determined to succeed. In 1977, he took a huge leap of faith, leaving a secure job to open his own tile company. He named it J & L Tile Company Ltd. after his precious little daughters, Joanna and Laureen. He began life with adversity and never forgot his roots. Guido not only learned to read and write in English, he taught himself to read blueprints proficiently and effortlessly. With a strong work ethic, integrity and great determination, he built one of the largest tile commercial installation companies in the province. He became a well-respected businessman. Guido was known for his generosity and kindness to everyone he met. He showered everyone with unconditional compassion and care, without expecting anything in return.

Although Guido worked endless hours, he always made time for his family and close friends. His priority was to keep La Famiglia united. He was selfless, wanting to take care of everyone -- and he did.

Throughout Guido’s life, he was proud of his Italian heritage, making Italian culture and values a family priority. Guido was diligent in assuring his daughters and grandchildren were proud and contributing members of the Italian community. When he finally retired at the young age of 77, the Centro Caboto became his home away from home as he indulged in the company of his longtime friends and community.

Guido was extremely handsome with an infectious smile and always a twinkle in his blue eyes. He easily could command attention, even with being the epitome of kindness. Everyone adored Guido, and his family will always be proud of him. His legacy and story will lovingly be shared for generations. He will never be forgotten.

We will forever miss you, each and every day.

Sempre nei nostri cuori. Riposi in pace.
