Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Dr. McGowan, best Dr. I ever had. He looked after most of my family, right up to retirement. Wonderful man. - Posted by: Shannon Pagan (Patient) on: Aug 14, 2025

  • Just found out. I could write pages, but I think I will simply say the very BEST. As my Doctor he was incredible physician and an even better human being. Our condolences and thoughts to the McGowan Family. Tony Magian on behalf of the Magian Family - Posted by: Tony Magian (Patient) on: May 14, 2025

  • Dr. McGowan and I shared a birthday, October 8th! He was my mother, my father and my grandparents doctor. I moved on to a lady doctor when I reached puberty, but I always remember Dr. McGowan! I remember every time we had to go for an appointment, we had to go downtown through the bay to the Boyd building. I remember every time I had to get a needle, my mom would let me get a malt at The malt stop! Mega Mansion. I have unfortunately members of fear from Dr. McGowan's office only because I was a child and pretty much every time I went there I had to get a needle. Dr. McGowan was a wonderful doctor, I work with doctors now in my current role and I have nothing but respect for the profession! Sincere Condolences to your family. Angus! - Posted by: Kristen Holmes Lavery (Patient) on: Mar 28, 2025

  • My mom and I were just talking about Dr. McGowan last night! He was my doctor until I reached puberty. I wanted a lady doctor. At that point! Dr. McGowan and I shared a birthday, October 8th! My mom told me last night that I was laying on Dr. Gown's table and he looked at her and said Wendy? You have a beautiful daughter ❤️. Unfortunately, all I remember about going to Dr. McGowan's office is that we had to drive downtown to the Boyd building and pretty much every time I went there I had to get a needle! But I always remember him being very kind and reassuring even though I was a scared kid. Much sympathy to his family, what a wonderful man he was. I work with physicians now and I really respect how Noble a career it is. - Posted by: Kristen Holmes Lavery (Patient) on: Mar 28, 2025

  • My mom and I have just learned of Dr. McGowan's passing. We were just talking about him tonight! Dr. McGowan and I shared a birthday, October 8th. He was my doctor as well as my sisters, my mom's and my dad's for many years including my dad's parents John and Vera Holmes. I switched to a lady doctor when I reached puberty because I was shy! I was always scared of going to the office because it meant I was going to get a needle, but Dr. McGowan was always so kind and gentle. I now work with doctors and therapists who travel to Northern Manitoba and Nunavut. Such a noble profession, sincere condolences his family, he will certainly be remembered for many years to come. - Posted by: Kristen Holmes Lavery (Patient) on: Mar 27, 2025

  • December of 1972 was the last time I saw Dr. McGowan. He attended my grandfather at his home for the final time, prescribing morphine if memory serves. Dr. McGowan had made home visits to my grandfather, Emil Behr, a regular service for years, a rare practice even in those days, a forgotten one today. The dedication, care, and compassion of Dr. McGowan made a lasting impression on me. He was indeed an exemplary doctor and person. My sincere condolences, and gratitude. - Posted by: Steve Rome (Grandson of a longtime patient) on: Mar 23, 2025

  • Dr. McGowan was my father's doctor for many, many years. He was wonderful and everything you could possibly want in a family physician. He was compassionate, brilliant, empathetic, well-connected within the medical community, and respected.
