JACK RETTALER

February 15, 1929 - March 11, 2025

Jack passed away peacefully on March 11 at Vita Personal Care Home (PCH) at the age of 96.

He is survived by his four children, Shirly (Bert), Rosemary, Patsy and Larry (Mary), eight grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 65 years, Linda, sons-in-law, Clyde and Doug, all his siblings (five brothers and seven sisters), and his beloved poodles, Tiny 1 and Tiny 2.

Jack was born on February 15, 1929, in Greenridge, Manitoba. He attended Woodmore school until he was 16. He then headed east to the bush camps where he cut wood for two winters.

On May 21, 1949, Jack and Linda got married and moved to Dominion City. He worked as a carpenter after the 1950 flood in Emerson. They purchased a farm on Road 22E and briefly lived there. In 1954/1955 they purchased the family farm from Jack’s brother Benny. Here, Jack and Linda planted their roots and raised their family. Jack had a passion for farming, welding in the shop, playing the harmonica, and most of all hunting!

After Linda passed away in 2014 Jack remained on the farm and learned how to cook and clean for himself. He was able to maintain his yard and grew a garden every summer.

As the years went by Jack’s health started to decline and after a fall in late 2022, he stared to receive home care. In Spring of 2024 he went from St. Pierre Hospital to Vita PCH where he lived out his remaining days. He was always glad to come home, even if it was just for the afternoon.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Greenridge Church at 2:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the Vita Personal Care Home for their compassion and care they provided to Jack.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation.
