Following a prolonged illness, John Walker passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, at the age of 83.
John was born on August 30, 1941, and lived most of his life in Winnipeg, where he held a variety of jobs. He did plumbing and electrical work and studied hard to become a refrigeration mechanic. Later in his career, he was the maintenance director at a retirement community, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Following his retirement, he really liked tinkering in his garage workshop and cycling around Winnipeg and St. Catharines, Ontario, where the family moved in 2014.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Carrie; his wife’s parents, John and Florence Piskor; sisters, Mary, Gertie, Alfreda, Florence, Margaret and Carol; and brother-in-law, Bob Preston. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gladys; his son, Curtis; and in-laws, John (Doreen) and Pat Preston, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Lancaster Unit at Henley House for their dedication in caring for John in his final years.
As per John’s wishes, there will be no service and cremation has taken place.

I am truly heartbroken at hearing of the loss of this wonderful human being. John made working at the retirement home bearable. John always had a chuckle and smile that seemed infectious (at least to me). I am very sorry for your loss Gladys. - Posted by: Peter Doliwa (Friend) on: Mar 29, 2025
