FRANK MAK

Frank Mak, age 91, passed away with his three daughters at his side on March 26, 2025. He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Cass), son Patrick and parents, Gaspar and Elizabeth.

Frank leaves to mourn daughters, Virginia, Clare (Andrew) Hargrave, Shelagh Hirch; grandchildren, Brendan (Sonja), Kevin (Kristjana), Michael Hargrave, Ellie (Brett) Kanuka, Conor, Liam (Andrea) and Maddie Hirch; great-grandchildren, Nina, Markus and Eddie.

Frank was the only child of Hungarian immigrants and was raised on a farm, primarily in Langruth, Manitoba. He received a Bachelor of Social Work at St. Paul’s College at the University of Manitoba, where he met his future wife, Mary. They married, settled in Winnipeg to raise their family and he went on to obtain his Master of Social Work. Frank had a long and rewarding career with the Province of Manitoba in the Department of Family Services.

Dad was known for his kind, thoughtful and loving nature, integrity, intellect and sense of humour. He and Mom shared a deep love for each other, standing together through both the good and difficult times and made a strong unified team, creating a warm, loving and supportive home for their daughters. He was a dedicated son, who continued to support his parents on the farm despite having a young family in the city, modelling the importance of family responsibility. Dad volunteered for many years as a softball coach and soccer manager and was very well liked and respected. He was an exceptional grandpa and many wonderful memories of cottage life in Detroit Lakes were created for all the family to cherish.

A great pleasure in Dad’s life, once he lost Mom, was the discovery of so many relatives in Hungary who welcomed him into their homes with hospitality and love.

We would like to extend our appreciation for the care Dad received from the Home Care Program, particularly the Palliative Home Care Program, allowing him to remain in his home, which was his strong desire.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place, Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

Donations can be made to St. Paul’s College Foundation Inc. or a charity of your choice.
