Con Lynch died peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at St. Boniface Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Mourning his loss are sons: Conor (MaryAnne), granddaughters, Ella and Olivia; Amhlaoibh (Kathy), grandson Christian; daughter Shauna (Corey); along with many other dear nieces, nephews and friends.
Dad was born in Ballyvourney, County Cork, Ireland in 1940 to Freddie and Mary (nee Lucy) Lynch. After two years at Teacher Training College, dad began his teaching career in 1960. He met Mary Logue in Dublin and they married in 1964. With their two sons, Con and Mary came to Canada in 1968. After a year in Brandon they moved to Winnipeg and dad began teaching at John Pritchard School. Dad moved to John Henderson Junior High School in 1980 and a year later his darling little girl Shauna arrived on the scene. It was the 1980s. It was a wild time!
All three of us had the great fortune to have dad as our teacher. For us boys, he taught us in grade 6 at John Pritchard. Shauna had him for grades 7, 8, and 9 at John Henderson. He was the best teacher any of us had in the classroom and at home. Countless people have told us over the years he was their favourite teacher. Dad loved children and he loved teaching them to love learning. Even the scallywags.
After his retirement in 1997 he spent the next 15 years with the love of his life, Mary, until she sadly died in 2012.
Dad filled his days meeting and debating with almost everyone he encountered at Sal’s or A & W and spending time with his beloved dog and best friend Max. He loved to follow the news, driving, travelling, engaging in crossword competitions and being with family. His grandchildren were his greatest source of pride and joy.
His faith was the solid foundation that gave him strength and direction throughout his entire life.
We would like to thank Con’s family physician Dr. Marcello Venditti and all the staff at St. Boniface Hospital ER, 6A South and 6E for their incredible care and compassion.
Prayers and viewing were held Friday, April 4, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 315 Munroe Avenue.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Church. A viewing will be held prior at 10:30 a.m. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to St. Alphonsus Parish or to Development and Peace: Caritas Canada.

So sad to hear about Mr. Lynch’s passing. He was my Grade 6 Teacher at John Pritchard many, many years ago. I still remember his booming voice, his mischievous smile and his care for his students. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Christine Chaboyer (student) on: Apr 17, 2025

This has touched my heart very deeply. Your Dad, Mr. Lynch, was BY FAR….. my most favorite teacher in John Pritchard in the early 70’s…..yes, I’m dating myself at 66 now. He was so approachable and easygoing……couldn’t ask for a better teacher or mentor. I remember him showing his fists to me offering to “fight” in the hallway before classes, always very playful. I shed a tear as I send this. He clearly was dearly loved and respected by so many former students and, most importantly, his family, who were blessed to have him as a father and teacher. I now live in New Brunswick, but would definitely be there in person to say thank you and give you all a big hug. You never know what an impact a teacher may have had on a person’s life. My parents used to say they thought I was a teacher’s pet in his class. Hopefully, I can meet your family in person one day. Please be comforted by many many happy memories I know you have. - Posted by: Robert (Rob) McLaughlin (Junior high school student) on: Apr 05, 2025

I was very saddened to learn that Mr. Lynch had passed away. I was lucky enough to have him as my teacher at John Henderson from 7th to 9th grade. Mr. Lynch made learning fun but most of all I could tell he cared about me and the other students. He didn’t suffer fools and didn’t put up with much malarkey in the class. I’ll always remember his bellowing. “C’mon now!” when he needed to get the class in shape. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: T. McNeill (Former Student) on: Apr 05, 2025

Con was one of the good ones that I thought about so often since I retired as secretary at John Henderson so many years ago. He could always put a smile on your face. My sympathies go out to his family. - Posted by: Evelyn Mearon (Worked with Con and Conor) on: Apr 05, 2025

I was one of the lucky ones to have Mr. Lynch as my teacher in Grade 6 @ JP. He was tough, funny and you could tell he loved being a teacher. I remember lots of shenanigans between him and Mr. Weiss on the 2nd floor hallway at school. In later years when I worked for RETSD we bumped into each other again and after his retirement met a few times at Sals. He was a good man and will be missed by many. Condolences to his family. - Posted by: Pam Jansen (student/friend) on: Apr 04, 2025

Our hearts go out to the Lynch family during this tough time. I feel truly grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside Mr. Lynch Sr. while teaching ELA at John Henderson Junior High School. His kindness and dedication touched all of us. May you find comfort in the love and support that surrounds you as you navigate this profound loss. Kind regards, Margaret Murray & husband Darryl - Posted by: Margaret Murray (Colleague) on: Apr 04, 2025

Mr Lynch! He truly was amazing and taught all us Scallywags with hilarity and a smile. Even when he threatened to beat us with a broom! Sad to hear of his passing but he's definitely never been forgotten. Sláinte mhath, I'll have a dram for you tonight. Condolences to Shauna and Conor and the rest of the family. - Posted by: Meghan Stewart (Student from 1993-1995) on: Apr 04, 2025
