Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONA ELIZABETH ARMSTRONG
Dona peacefully passed away in her 95th year, after a life filled with joy. She will be remembered for her hospitality (there was always room for one more at the table), lending a helping hand, her forthrightness, her faith, her baking, her love of sweets, and her sense of humour.
Dona, the youngest of three, was born in Collingwood, Ontario to Walter and Pauline Robinson. She completed her ARCT (piano) at the Royal Conservatory before studying to be an RN at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, where she met Gregg Armstrong. Her first placement was in a TB hospital in Prince Rupert, BC.
Returning to Ontario, Gregg proposed to her and they were married in Barrie. His work as a minister took them to Atikokan and Rainy River, Ontario, then to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dona worked at the Women's Pavilion in Winnipeg as a Nurse, and then moved into teaching. She earned her BN (Nursing), and later shifted to Public Health. Long after retirement Dona and Gregg moved to Edmonton. (Gregg predeceased her 15 years ago.)
Gregg and Dona raised and are survived by their son Mark (Fran) and daughter Pauline (Ronnie), grandchildren, Heather, Ian, Luke, David and Maria, and great-grandchildren, Elodie, Quinn, Micah and Luca.
There will be a celebration of Dona's life at Christ Church Edmonton (12116 102 Ave. NW), on May 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow. There will be a service in Winnipeg at St. James the Assiniboine Church (195 Collegiate St.) on June 14 at 10:00 a.m., reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Christ Church or St. James Church.

One hates to see the passing of old friends, when glancing through the obits. But we’re, none of us, living forever. Dona and Gregg were both friends of mine for many years, largely from the St Bede’s Association. A fine and principled couple. Dona’s smile was always warm and welcoming and sort of put you at your ease. Many years earlier, for a short period of time she was one of my nursing preceptors at the WGH in the late 60’s when I was a student nurse. I liked to remind her of this Association, years later when we would meet. I did not know about their early years and the places they lived in Canada which are of interest to me. With this short message I pass along my Condolences to Dona’s son and dtr and grandchildren and great grandchildren and say that she and Gregg both had lives well lived. - Posted by: Catherine Lee (Friend) on: Apr 12, 2025
