Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT SEALBY ROGERS
On March 31, 2025, Robert (Bob) Sealby Rogers passed away, comfortably resting in his favourite arm chair in his Winnipeg home of 65 years. Bob was born April 7, 1936, in Liverpool, England to parents Nellie and Joseph Rogers. From an early age Bob had an independent, adventurous spirit that led him to emigrate to Canada in 1957 at the age of 21.
His travels soon turned to Winnipeg, where he met the love of his life, Maria Malmstrom at a YWCA social event. They married in 1960 and promptly filled their new home and life with three children Paul (Gaby), Trish (Rick) and Carl.
Dad earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba in 1967 which opened the door to a career with the Federal Government Public Service Commission. After retiring in 1991, Dad enjoyed a simple, quiet life. He loved nature, especially trees and birds, spending countless hours hiking, cross-country skiing and exploring trails, often with Mom beside him. Dad also cherished the family cottage with its peaceful solitude. He was a life-long passionate reader and an advocate for continuing education, devouring books by the dozen on a wide range of topics and attending University lectures in his retirement years. A tricky crossword puzzle and his wee dram of afternoon “medicine” were an unshakeable daily routine that made us all smile, along with the corny jokes and puns he so liked.
Dad was predeceased by his parents, sister Pat and wife Maria. He is survived by his children, grandchildren Noah and Mitchell and great-grandchild Cameron.
Cremation has taken place and a private family remembrance will be held this summer as Dad wished. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Bob’s memory to the Winnipeg Foundation – Maria Rogers Fund would be greatly appreciated.

To my cousins Paul, Trish and Carl and to the extended family, I am so sorry for your loss. It was so kind of your parents to take me in when I was studying and needed a place to live. I enjoyed them both so much and have so many fond memories of that time. I remember watching old BBC comedies together with Uncle Bob (some of which drove Auntie Maria to distraction). We had many great conversations on a variety of topics. He was so well-read, a lifelong scholar and an inspiration. I will really miss him. I had many interesting conversations with Bob over the years and particularly since the time of Maria's death. He was well-read and informed on history, politics, nature, the environment and many other topics. While we debated on some things, we agreed on many others. As a brother-in-law he was greatly loved and admired. I was looking forward to another conversation on his birthday, April 7th that never happened. My condolences to the family. I love you very much! I will raise a glass of Scotch to your dad. And we can do it again when we all get together. Love George & Debbie - Posted by: George Malmstrom (Brother-in-law) on: Apr 16, 2025

I will remember Bob for his wit, intelligence and kindness. He was great company-- always jocular, engaging and up for a good conversation. I appreciated his keen interest in literature, politics, and current events. I enjoyed his stories and hearing about the U of W courses he took just for "fun" and the sheer love of learning. When I think of Bob I think of the saying "he was a gentleman and a scholar." I also have very fond memories of holiday gatherings hosted by Bob and Maria and Carl, (singing Christmas carols around their basement piano), and of many special dinners and family celebrations we shared in over the years. Sending condolences and hugs to Paul, Gaby, Trish, Rick, Carl, Noah and Mitchell. So very sorry for your loss.❤️ - Posted by: Niki Kotelo (Extended family) on: Apr 14, 2025
