MARJORIE FRANCES VALERIE HENRY (JONES)

Marjorie Frances Valerie (Jones) Henry (“Lovey” to her Dad) was born August 15, 1945, on Hecla Island to Helgi and Frances (Hirst) Jones. She passed away November 13, 2024.

She is missed by Bob, her husband of 60 years; her sister Pat Bjornson; brothers, Allan (Betty) Stuart, Murray (Margaret) and sister-in-law Bernice Henry. She was a loving and much-loved auntie and great-aunt. She was predeceased by her parents, her in-laws, Duke and Minnie and brothers-in-law, Hallthor and David.

Marjorie grew up at Hecla in a loving, busy household. She attended Sunday School and Confirmation Classes and was active in the 4-H Club. She loved the school concerts, whist drives, “24th of May” picnics, and “kick-up” dances. She loved music and dancing and did a “mean” twist in her day. She lived at Hecla in what she called Hecla’s “glory days” and was a proud “Heclinger”. After high school, she moved to the big city where she sought further education and employment.

She and Bob were married in 1964 and made their home in Winnipeg. She led a busy life which included some farming and different things career-wise. She found her niche at “Canadian Tire”, Portage Avenue, where she was a loyal and highly-respected staff member until she retired. As her Dad once said “Lovey is the little chief at Canadian Tire”.

Marjorie loved spending time at Hecla, loved Casino jaunts and enjoyed several bus-tour trips. She was very family-oriented, loved family gatherings and felt strongly about “family history” being preserved. To that end, she compiled a “Jones” Family History, a “Hirst” Family History, 100 years of “Hirst” History and 70 years of Hecla tourism history.

Marjorie was the epitome of goodness and kindness. Her warmth and outgoing nature endeared her to all and she will be lovingly remembered by many friends and family.

She will be laid to rest at Hecla South Hvassafell Cemetery in a private graveside service.

REST IN PEACE!

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Marge was my lifelong friend. She was sunshine personified, radiating kindness and love. I'll always treasure the laughter and adventures we shared, as well as the more difficult times where we could lean on each other. Marge's strong, virtuous character always led her to stand fast for what was right. One of her best qualities was her love for her family members, a love which was reciprocated. I send my own love and condolences to Bob, Pat, Allan, Betty, Stuart, and Murray, as well as the in-laws, and her many beloved relatives. - Posted by: Carol Bradshaw Ray (Friend) on: May 17, 2025
