My sincere sympathy to the family. As Andy has mentioned, "Tricky Dicky" was a very big inspiration to a young colleague like me. His ideas and organizational skills were top notch and it was people like him that made my career in phys ed so rewarding. Although he has left us in a physical way rest assured he will never be forgotten by those whom he inspired in so many ways. - Posted by: Warren Cook (Colleague) on: May 18, 2025

Dicky notoriously grumbled and mumbled a lot about anything and everything but was a pleasure to teach with and the kids liked him and so did his co workers. - Posted by: Brad Rayner (Taught physical education with Dick at Frontenac school) on: May 18, 2025

I am so sorry for your family's loss! I was a student of Dick's at Van Bellingham Elementary School where he coached us for x country. I have a fond memory; a few times Mr Spradbrow would say "Hatherly, here's some money, go get us some Slurpees". Crazy cool times (7-11 was kitty corner to our school). Later, as a college, we used to chuckle with Dick about his lawn chair that he would bring to track meets! We joked that he probably taught classes while sitting in his lawn chair... Brad and Andy never admitted to seeing this... 🤔 😎. Now we wonder if Chris uses a lawn chair for PE activities?? Brian Hatherly Chris, my thoughts are with you and your family. - Posted by: Brian Hatherly (Former student and then, college) on: May 18, 2025

Dick was a gym teacher at Beaverlodge School when we were both teaching there. He was so loved by his students and a great person to have on staff. I extend my sincere condolences to his family. - Posted by: Debbie Nielsen (Ostlere) (Colleague) on: May 18, 2025

I had the privilege of working with “Tricky Dicky” at Frontenac for a few years. My greatest memory of Dick was the years that we ran a year long Track program for so many students. He was eager and willing to share his knowledge with others and was a special kind of coach when it came to Athletics. It’s unfortunate that we lose track of people after we retire. I share my condolences with Dick’s family. So sorry to hear that he is gone. - Posted by: Andy Bell (Colleague) on: May 17, 2025
