GALLUS OBERHOLZER

March 4, 1949 – May 14, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gallus Oberholzer, who left this world peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the age of 76. A man of quiet strength and unwavering passion, Gallus lived a life defined by his love of nature, family, and the pursuit of dreams.

Born on March 4, 1949, in Wald, Switzerland, Gallus was one of nine siblings. With a sense of adventure and a dream in his heart, in 1987 he moved across the ocean to Canada with his beloved wife and their four children. They made a home at a farm along Mountain Road on the Manitoba Escarpment, a fitting place for a man with a deep connection to the woods and mountains alike.

There, Gallus lived the life he had envisioned. Whether working with wood, tending to the land, or simply walking through the wilderness, his days were filled with craftsmanship, honest work, and love for his family. His stories, quiet humor, and generous spirit touched everyone he met.

His love of travel and adventure was a constant through his life, whether it was windsurfing on the lakes of Switzerland, climbing the Matterhorn and Kilimanjaro, hiking in Peru, travelling through Australia with Jda, or ski trips throughout Canada that continued into his 70s.

Gallus Oberholzer is survived by his loving wife, Jda; his four children, Philipp (Megan), Nadja, Mathias (Sama), and Sonja; his grandchildren, Fawn, Mikki, Benjamin, Misha, Leah, Olivia, and Nicholas; as well as many extended family members in both Canada and Switzerland.

As per his wishes a private service will be held with his wife, children and their families.

Gallus taught us that dreams are not just to be chased, they are to be lived. And in his own humble, determined way, he did just that. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Rae’s Funeral Service of Erickson are in care of the arrangements.
