EVON GLORIA BLAIS

(DENNISON)

Evon Gloria Blais (Dennison) passed away on May 19, 2025, at Minnedosa Personal Care Home on her 91st birthday. Her husband Gene Blais passed away on January 6, 2025.

Evon was the middle daughter of three, born to Clifford and Dorthy Dennison on May 19, 1934, in Broom Hill, Manitoba. After attending school in Virden Manitoba, Evon went on to graduate from Nursing at Misericordia General Hospital in Winnipeg in 1956. Evon furthered her studies with a specialization in Operating Room Principles and Advanced Practice. She met Gene while in Nursing, and they later wed in Virden on April 27, 1957. Together they had three sons, and resided in many locations throughout Manitoba including Minnedosa, Souris, Russell, Virden, Thompson and Winnipeg. During her nursing career, Evon worked at the hospitals at each of forementioned towns. Evon served as the Clinical Coordinator for Maternity and Obstetrics at Grace General Hospital and later served as the Director of Nursing, prior to her retirement.

Evon was an active Girl Guide as a young girl and was the first in Manitoba to receive the Gold Cord, one of the highest honours from Guides. She also joined the Beta Sigma Phi in Winnipeg as a student and continued to participate with her sorority throughout her life. She was Women of the Year for Beta Sigma Phi in 2004. Evon was recognized for her many years spent volunteering at the Misericordia Health Centre. She also received, along with Gene, a gold medal service award for their work at the Pan Am Games in 1999. Evon loved her time with family, friends and community. Her interests included skiing, sailing, biking, hiking, camping and various other outdoor activities. In their younger years, Gene and Evon spent their summers camping at Clear Lake and traveled on numerous occasions with family and friends to Lake Louise to ski. At 70 Evon and Gene hiked the Westcoast Trail in British Columbia. They enjoyed many vacations over their years together traveling throughout North America and around the world. She was an active community member and a devoted Roman Catholic, at St. Paul Apostle Parish in Winnipeg.

Evon is survived by her sons, Mark (Jan), Jon-Paul, Bart; grandchildren, Laci (Dorn), Luke (Amber), Phillipe, Andrea, Daniel, Madeline and Julia; and five great-grandsons, (Chase, Aiden, Ethan, Elie and Helgi).

A family service is planned for both Evon and Gene at the RCMP depot in Regina on May 31, 2025.

If friends so desire donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.

  • What a truly wonderful couple. They were obviously meant for each other. They were both so generous and kind with their hospitality over the years and I will miss them greatly. I’m so happy to see that they are being remembered together. Rest in peace. You too lovely people. - Posted by: Janice (Thibedeau) Knutson (Nursing school classmate) on: May 24, 2025
