Date of Passing: May 18, 2025
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRANKLIN MICHAEL WAHL
As a family, we are very sad to let everyone know that after a short fight with cancer, Frank Wahl passed away on May 18, 2025 at 72 years.
Frank will be dearly missed by his wife Bev, son Michael and his wife Annika and their precious children, Kaia, Nichola and Cy, son Eric and his husband Trevor, the extended Hawkes family and many friends.
Frank was a cartographer, photogrammetrist and a remote sensing specialist. In other words, he made maps. He enjoyed his work for many years but appreciated 15 years of retirement even more.
"Coach Frank" loved coaching Michael and Eric and their friends at East St Paul CC and had a special place in his heart for the athletes he coached at Special Olympics floor hockey and curling.
His love for lake life began in the 1950s, and his "happy place" was Rush Bay, Lake of the Woods. Nature was where he found joy, peace, time for contemplation and, most importantly, a place for family togetherness.
Family, Friends and Fishing forever.
A memorial service will be held at Abundant Life Lutheran Church, 3486 Raleigh Street, East St. Paul on Friday, May 30, at 11:00 a.m.
The service can be streamed online at twitch.tv/spiritoflifewinnipeg

I first met Frank in Grade 1 at Prince Edward elementary. I think we were both in Miss Walkers room. We attended Munroe Jr High together and eventually graduated from Miles Mac in 1971ish. We played hockey against each other. Bronx Park against Melrose. I should clarify, Frank played hockey while I played Pilon. I remember Frank seemed to be in a cast about every second year for a broken collar bone or clavicle or should injury of some sort. We crossed paths over the years when our boys graduated from River East together. We reconnected later in our lives during Friday nite curling league at Rossmere. I don’t recall hearing anyone ever say a bad thing about Frank, he quite simply was one of the “good guys” He always seemed to have a smile on his face and a chuckle in his voice. To Bev and family my sincerest condolences on the loss of Frank. To Frank, RIP my friend. - Posted by: Albert Raine (Friend) on: May 31, 2025

Dear Bev and family, Our deepest condolences. Murray and I got to know Frank as my parents were best friends with his Mom and Dad . Lots of fun times at Rush Bay . Our parents cottages just across the bay from one another . I also went to Miles Mac at the same time as Frank although we hung out with a different crowd. We would always see each other in the hallway . With a quick hi and how you doing . A great guy . Who will be missed . - Posted by: Karen Line (Friend) on: May 26, 2025

Our heartfelt condolences go to Bev and the family…there will be a mighty gap in the humour department for some time. We were so lucky to have great pleasure to be neighbours with Bev and Frank in Las Palmas, Mesa, AZ for some years. And experienced Franks smiles, humour, ever ready , Hey Dave.. what’d you need ? Time for a rum, maybe?!! Lol!! The laughs were nonstop!! When we needed them!! You are in our hearts forever. Gone, never forgotten!! With love, Terry and Dave. - Posted by: David and Terry Short (Friends) on: May 25, 2025

I’m so sorry to read about Frank’s passing. Although I have not seen Frank for many years, I do remember how kind and wise he was- his invitations to his family cottage, his convincing me to attend the 1971 Brier with him and others at the old Winnipeg arena, which was the catalyst for my life long love of curling, his insights at Winnipeg Whips baseball games and late Friday nights at A&W munching on burgers and fries, while laughing at our latest shenanigans. - Posted by: Andrew Shchudlo (Friend) on: May 25, 2025

I met Frank when I worked at the Surveys and Mapping Branch back in the 70’s and 80’s. He was smart and witty, kind and open and generous. He was a great guy to spend time with. My deepest condolences to Bev and family. I’m sure he will be dearly missed. - Posted by: Bonnie Cheadle (Friend) on: May 24, 2025

I got to know Frank in 1973. He was dating my sister Bev and would pick her up at our house early mornings in his little blue Datsun to get them to class at the U of W. He would always let me jump into the back seat to hitch a ride which I often did on frosty winter mornings. Over the more than 50 years that passed since then, Frank remained the same friendly and giving great guy. Always so welcoming to folks who showed up at his door. So glad to have had him as my brother-in-law. I will miss him. - Posted by: Gary Hawkes (Brother-in-law) on: May 24, 2025
