Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH FREILING
With sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Edith Freiling May 15, 2025. Lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Erwin; children Perry (Tracey), Karin (Jay), and Don (Patti); and grandchildren Holly, Kayla, Carly, Marc Adam, and Katrina. She is also survived by siblings Wally and Heinz, and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Latvia, Edith's family came to Canada as refugees, settling in Alberta. She moved to Winnipeg, where she met Erwin. She worked as a Nurse at Winnipeg Clinic before raising a family, later managing cafeterias at the CNR Shops and Palliser.
Edith embraced life with kindness, humor, and love of adventure. She and Erwin traveled widely, wintered often in Florida, Arizona, and Cuba. A passionate gardener, she tended her blooms and butterflies with pride well into her 80s.
Above all, Edith loved her family deeply. Her strength, compassion, and gratitude inspired all who knew her. Even after her stroke in January, her radiant smile and positive spirit touched hospital staff and visitors alike.
A celebration of Edith’s life will be held in June (details to follow). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated or plant a flower in her memory.
