GRACE EDITH MCLEOD

(nee ERSKINE)

August 19, 1930 - May 18, 2025

On May 18th, our beloved mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, Grace, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children.

Grace was born in Montreal to James and Margaret Erskine. Her passion for helping and caring led her to become a nurse, graduating from the Montreal General Hospital. She continued to practice this career, formally and informally for the rest of her life.

Grace married Sterling McLeod in 1953 and together they raised four children: Heather (Terry), Scott (Diane), Barry (Sherry), Debbie (Jay). The family relocated to Winnipeg in 1976 as Sterling’s career with Investors Group flourished. She was always standing beside and supporting Dad in everything he did with Investors. She was a loving and generous grandmother to Jason (Renee), Alan (Ariel), Megan (Martin), Jennifer (Ben), Riley (Josh), Jessie (Dylan) and Tristan (Sarah) and great-grandmother to Cam, Katie, Riley, Olivia, Hugh, Griffin, Bryson and Harper.

Known to many as “Gracie”, she was the consummate entertainer whether it was in Winnipeg or in their winter home in Sarasota, Florida. “Gracie’s Place” was always open and welcoming to all. She was an avid golfer at St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg and Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota, where she made countless friends.

Grace was always very beautiful, stylish and “dressed to the nines” and there could never be enough “bling” on her outfits. But her beauty was way more than skin deep; she was kind, thoughtful and generous. She had a deep faith and trust in God and was a long time and active member of Westwood Presbyterian in Winnipeg and Lockwood Ridge Presbyterian in Sarasota.

Grace aged gracefully and remained active into her 90s while living at Sturgeon Creek 1 Retirement Residence. As her health slowly declined, she was supported by her family and an amazing and loving team of care providers from Sturgeon Creek 1, WRHA Home Care, and Home Instead Care Pros. Our thanks and gratitude go out to the many who went above and beyond to help make Mom’s last years the best they could be. Despite the challenges Mom faced, she was always grateful for everyone and everything in her life.

A Celebration of Life will take place on June 23, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Reception to follow.

Rest in Peace Mom!

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • As a young man I had the wonderful opportunity to work for Investors Syndicate Limited and the privilege of working with Sterling, the consummate gentleman. As time went on Susan and I had the good fortune to also meet Grace McLeod at Investors events and in later years golfing at St. Charles Country Club. Both Grace and Sterling had the warm gift of making you always feel welcome and at home. Each were great leaders in their time and made great impressions on those they welcomed into the “IG Family”. They will be missed but have left us good lessons to follow. - Posted by: Murdoch Robert C (IG Employee Retired) on: May 28, 2025

  • Sterling and Grace were mentors and friends and wonderful role models for me over many years. Grace was such a perfect complement to Sterling. She was so caring and hospitable. My wife, Astrid, and I were privileged to share dinners and golf with Grace and Sterling in Florida. My memory of Grace which demonstrated her ability to embrace so many as friends was a special birthday party at Palm Aire where Grace was "praised" by about 20 friends with verses sung to the music of "Amazing Grace". And amazing she was. - Posted by: Wayne Walker (IG employee) on: May 27, 2025

  • I had the privilege of travelling and working with Sterling and Grace in my years at IG. They were a remarkable team and I will never forget them. They just do not come any better. And no one could have been christened with a better name than either Sterling or Grace! With fond memories, Glen Torgerson - Posted by: Glen Torgerson (Friend) on: May 27, 2025
