It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard "Rick" James Velhat peacefully in Calgary, AB, on May 28, 2025, at the age of 65, due to complications following cancer surgery.
He is survived in Calgary by his wife Darlene, sister Halina (Tony), niece Renata (Mark), and great-nieces Arianna and Anileah and by family in Canada, the USA, Poland, and Czech Republic.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Canadian Legion Poppy Fund. A private cremation has taken place.

Far too many memories of university days to select any single one. My dearest and deepest condolences to family and all of Rick’s friends. Truly an amazing man who you only had to meet once to appreciate and know that you had just met one of the finest. After graduation I lost contact but I was fortunate enough to gather with many of the guys at Bob’s wedding. That evening with Rick was my last with him and I will cherish that day forever.
