ROBERT (BOB) EDWARD SHMIGELSKY

1936 - 2025

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts the family of Robert (Bob) announces his peaceful passing on June 6, surrounded by his loving family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 65 years, Audrey (nee Moen), his four daughters: Lorie Shmigelsky (Denis Desautels), Lynda Rehberg, Janet Krilyk (Jamie), Jaylene Schroeder (Bruce). grandchildren: Alysha Murdoch (Jacob Micflikier), Steven Rehberg (Anika), Natalie Reichert (Jakob), Kayla Stasiuk (Patrick), Nicole Krilyk (Derek Harbun), Kyle Schroeder and Sarah Schroeder, great-grandchildren: Lilyanna, Violet, Rin, Adeline, Everly and Jane. Also remembered by his step-grandchildren: Michael, Jaclyn, Natalie Desautels and their families. All whom he loved unconditionally.

Bob was born in Vita, Manitoba to parents Anne and William Shmigelsky where he grew up with three brothers, Ronald (Hazel), Martin, and Sidney (Elsie) and two sisters, Sylvia Shmigelsky and Iris Warren (Bill). He was predeceased by his parents, brother Martin, son-in-law Harry Rehberg and brother-in-law, Gary Diduch. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Lenore Diduch and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Bob was employed by Canada Post for 35 years, his last position being a Professional Driving Coordination Officer. He enjoyed 32 years of retirement which was filled with travelling and spending time at his beautiful cottage, which he built by himself, at Booster Lake. Bob enjoyed the great outdoors; hunting and fishing and golfing but family and home were most important. We shared our lives together with love and kindness.

The family expresses their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their kind care and compassion, as well as all the Home Care staff who helped us.

In accordance with Bob’s wishes, there will not be a funeral. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

  • Our sincere condolences to the Shmigelsky family. During my childhood, I spent many hours at the Shady Lawn Restaurant & Motel and know the entire family well to include Bob's grandparents. A common trait in the men was that they were all skilled carpenters and masters in detailed finishing carpentry work. I have maintained contact with Bob's youngest brother, Sidney, and over the many years never tired of listening to the many hunting & fishing escapades that Bob so enjoyed. From all of Sid's stories about Bob's hunting & fishing experiences and the life he lived, I wish I could have accompanied them on one of their many trips. My thoughts are with you as you go through this sad time. Gerry & Gloria Smoliak Colorado Springs, Colorado - Posted by: Gerry Smoliak (Neighbor Vita, Manitoba) on: Jun 15, 2025
