CELIA PAULINA WHITING

1989 - 2025

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beautiful Celia on Tuesday, June 3, following an unexpected health issue. Our CeCe has left us too soon, though she lives on in the hearts she leaves behind.

She is forever loved by her Family including her partner - fiancé Damon Hawley (Carla, David), mother Renske Groen (Marc), father John Whiting (Sandy), sisters, Annelies (Chris) and Baylee, stepbrothers, Tyler and Nico, and all her loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Celia has always been our Sunshine, caring and compassionate, enriching the lives of those around her. An amazing sister, daughter, partner and friend. A lifetime world traveller, artistic, brave and adventurous. She loved long walks with her puppy Sora, and furiously fun game nights with Family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, June 28 at 1:00 p.m., at the Marshall McLuhan Hall, 65 Chancellors Circle, University of Manitoba.

In lieu of sending flowers, the Family asks you to consider a donation to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation (https://stbhf.ca/en/), e.g. NICU.

  • John, I am saddened by your daughter’s passing. We had shared joy with family involved in community events, especially Folklorama. I always feel you have a lovely family! My heart is with you and your family. Qi. - Posted by: Qi Wang (John’s coworker) on: Jul 04, 2025

  • When I first arrived in Winnipeg, I knew no one. Celia and I were colleagues, and she kindly offered me her friendship and her time by showing me around and hanging out with me. When I knew virtually no one, she was there. Even after I left Winnipeg, we stayed friends and updated each other about our lives through messages. I'm thankful that our paths crossed in this life, and I'm also sorry to hear about her tragic passing. Will miss you Celia <3. - Posted by: Laura Jean (Friend and ex-colleague) on: Jun 27, 2025

  • I was heartbroken to hear of Celia's sudden and tragic passing. Though we only met once in person, I was fortunate to be on the same team and witness the warmth, dedication, and positivity she brought to her work — even from across the country. My heartfelt condolences go out to her fiancé, family, friends, and all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed. - Posted by: Dominique Levesque (Coworker) on: Jun 19, 2025

  • John, Wanda and James, our favorite next-door neighbors of our youth, Renske and all the rest of Celia's loving family, it is with great shock and dismay to learn of Celia's unfair and tragic passing. We too have recently experienced such unexplainable and sudden loss, and can personally relate to the numbing disbelief that you are all going through now. As we told our family, and so offer to you, "it is not my will, but Thy will, be done." May His peace find and comfort your hearts as you struggle through this terrible period.. no child should pass before their parents All our love Cliff & Trish Tottle - Posted by: Cliff and Trish Tottle (Old-time Whiting neighbors) on: Jun 14, 2025
