Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN CATHERINE ADAMS
It is with great sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Jean Catherine Adams (Amos) on June 6, 2025, with family by her side.
Jean was predeceased by her best friend and love of her life, Ray, husband of 65 years, her sisters, Dorothy (Clare) Robertson, Joyce (Jack) Green, Francis (John) Adornetto, Beatrice (Al) Green, Margaret Smith, and her brother Jack Amos. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Mark (Sandra Walker), Susan, and Megan (Martin Fisher), as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Mary Amos, her sister-in-law, Gail Amos, and her brother-in-law, Jerry Smith. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Courtney (Greg), Joshua (Natalie), Jordan (Julie), Connor, Jacob (Cass), and Andrea, as well as her four great-grandchildren, Spencer, Myles, Caleb, and Elise. Jean will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Jean was born on the family farm near Alexander, Manitoba, to Francis and Catherine Amos. One of eight children, she frequently regaled us with stories of a wonderful childhood, often reminding us that they didn't have much, but there was always lots to eat. It is with this consummate optimism that she lived her life. In Jean's eyes, the world was a beautiful place, often saying, "aren't we lucky."
Jean was a unique combination of kind and tough. She always went out of her way to help others, but was the first to tell you to smarten up and get going! A school teacher for almost 40 years, it was a job opportunity that took her to Flin Flon, where she met her husband, Ray. Together, they lived a grand adventure raising their family in Leaf Rapids before retiring in Kelowna, BC. Jean was game for anything; she loved doing crosswords, playing bridge, curling, skiing, and canoeing extensively in the north with Ray, and whoever wanted to join them! In retirement, she added golf, sailboat racing, and travel to her repertoire. She and Ray enjoyed many wonderful vacations, which included chartering sailboats in the Caribbean and visiting the Galapagos Islands, but her favourite trip was always the one they made home to the family farm each fall to help with harvest.
Jean's most remarkable quality was her ability to connect with people. She was kind and generous and made friends of all ages and from all walks of life. Her friendships were many, long-lasting, and remained very important to her throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by her many lifelong friends, so many of whom remain an important part of our family.
We would like to extend a special thanks to the staff on 4S at the Victoria General Hospital for their compassionate care in her final weeks.
At Jean and Ray's request, there is no service planned. Their ashes will be spread on Lake Okanagan in Kelowna, BC, and interred at the Alexander Cemetery at a later date.

We met Jean at school in 1976, Leaf Rapids. She was very knowledgeable about all going on in the school. And we appreciated her practical solutions to problems. She was friendly and kind, helpful as we navigated our first year with new courses and new grade levels. Jean and Ray threw the best parties in their rec room. Such a fun environment with good music and good friends. We remember walking home from Jean’s party in daylight. A truly northern experience. I’ll never forget Jean. The Adams were a great part of our Leaf Rapids adventure. - Posted by: Cheryl & Terry Dann (Co-workers) on: Aug 02, 2025

We are very sad to hear of Jean's passing. We first met Jean in 1978 when we moved to Leaf Rapids to teach and our friendship continued long after we left. We have many fond memories of canoe trips with her and Ray, ski trips to Montana, visits to Kelona and the annual Xmas phone calls she made. We will miss her. - Posted by: Geoff & Katherine (Friends) on: Jul 07, 2025
