PATRICK MATTHEWS
Graham Bruce Patrick Matthews, born on August 19, 1953, in Portage Le Prairie, Manitoba, Canada, passed suddenly but peacefully while traveling abroad on May 30, 2025.
Graham was preceded in death by his mother, Jennie; his brothers, Alton and Grant; and his late wife, Donna. He is survived by his wife, Susan; his sons, Sean (Jennifer) and Christopher (Stephanie); his stepdaughter, Sofia (David); step-grandson, Yackob; and sister, Marjorie.
Graham began his lifelong career in medicine at the University of Manitoba in 1973. He started in Emergency Medicine, then Obstetrics, before assuming his perfectly suited role as a Family Physician. He left Winnipeg and moved his family to Woodstock, GA in 1996, where he continued to practice for 27 years. He touched countless lives, so many families, and served as an example for what a doctor can, and should, be.
When not working, Graham fit in a 4-mile jog daily, no matter the conditions, before becoming a stalwart on the Silver Comet Trail, biking hundreds of miles a week, rain or shine. He enjoyed watching movies, reading books, and spending time with family. After retiring in 2023, he was able to travel the world even more with Susan and family and enjoyed every minute.
Not a day will go by that his family, friends, and patients will not miss him, and the impact he had on their lives.
A funeral will be held at St. Michael the Archangel (Woodstock, GA), on Saturday, August 2 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Graham's name to the Parkinson's Foundation

My great friend Graham Mathews from Winnipeg days passed away while on vacation in Spain. Graham was the healthiest guy I knew running marathons and then cycling later in life when his knees gave way. There were a lot of great times just hanging playing cards, getting hammered by him in ping pong, loads of parties, a memorable Clear Lake back country trip, wiping out a canoe on the Assiniboine, mowing lawns with him and Peter Breen and driving around in the Willy's Jeep and our maiden glider flights, and on and on. Graham was a doctor and partner at the Medical Clinic across from Grace Hospital in St. James. He got tired of the nickel and diming by Government and hired a search consultant to find him a role down south with the one criteria being "warm" weather. He relocated to the north Atlanta suburbs and had a thriving practice there. I enjoyed visiting with him and Donna and their boys on a periodic basis. One of the highlights was a Georgia Bulldogs football game and the low light was Graham thrashing me at ping pong as usual. The guy had a great laugh which I recall now fondly and we did a whole lot of laughing together over the years. Glad I got to see him and meet Susan on my last trip through Atlanta. Graham missed the opportuinity to see his first grandchild due next month. RIP. - Posted by: Dennis Egan (friend) on: Jun 14, 2025

My deepest sympathy Sean, Christopher and Susan, I have such fond memories of spending countless hours with Graham and Donna at St. Paul's College. We had an inseparable gang who did everything together back in those days while always sharing a laugh and good times. While we all scattered and many of us relocated, the bond we made all those years ago never wavered. Years later, Graham became my Dad's family doctor and my dad thought the world of him. We have a lost a wonderful person and a great doctor. May your happy memories help you through this most difficult time. My sincerest condolences. - Posted by: Lucie Mauro (friend) on: Jun 14, 2025
