FRED WANKE

June 24, 1934 - January 26, 2025

Fred was born in Vita at the old Hospital on June 24, 1934, and passed away at the Vita Personal Care Home on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 63 years, Margit, his sons Harold and Elizabeth and Harolds children Victoria, Dane, Olivia and Cecelia; Paul and Barbara and their children Julianna and Andrew; John and Michelle and their sons Cole and Tyler; David and Tatianna and Bevin; Fred Jr. and Cheyenne and daughters Quinn and Avery; his sister Lillian Guest, sister Violet Hansche, and brother Harold in B.C. Fred will also be missed by many good friends.

Fred was predeceased by his parents William and Adeline Wanke, his first born son Karl, January 1976, brother Gorden Wanke, two brothers-in-law Martin Hansche, William Guest, and his in-laws Otto and Vera Uckermann.

After schooling he worked building Highway12 going east. Later he owned a farm, milking a few cows to deliver cream, some chickens for eggs, and a garden for fresh veggies. In his later years he went hunting and fishing with his sons, picking berries and mushrooms too.

Fred will be missed by his family and many friends.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with interment at Norwegian Cemetery, Menisino, MB.
