ERIC KEITH DAVIDSON

November 11, 1934 - May 6, 2025

It is with full hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Eric Keith Davidson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who passed away peacefully at Selkirk General Hospital, surrounded by his family, on May 6, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born in 1934 in Selkirk, Manitoba, Eric was a proud Icelander and a tough Selkirk boy through and through. He was raised on Clandeboye Avenue by his loving parents, Emil and Lyla, alongside his brother Lyall. He built his life on the foundation of hard work, loyalty, family, and a well-timed joke. His roots trace back to Iceland and the Viking spirit never left him.

Eric married the love of his life, Margaret, in 1964. Together, they built a life filled with joy, adventure, and family. He was the devoted father of Paul (Sue), Lisa (Andy), and Sue (Mark), and a proud and deeply adored Afi to Emily, Abby, Lexi, Lauren (Dawson), Liv (Will), Michael (Cassidy), and Maggie. He was also a much-loved uncle to Rob, Katie and Bryce Davidson and had dozens of cousins he was incredibly proud of.

Eric was a builder in every sense of the word - he built his family home, and spent a lifetime building community through friendships, volunteer work, and storytelling. He worked as an electrician, had Town and Country Electric and later Davidson Electric, drove a school bus for many years and served as a volunteer firefighter for over 30 years. He was a lifelong member of Knox Presbyterian Church, serving on the Board of Managers and as an Elder. He was a long-time member of the Khartum Shrine Club, where he proudly drove his vintage cars in the local parades.

Eric was a man of many passions: curling, golf, piloting his own plane, hunting and dancing. He fixed anything and everything. His yard was immaculate, his stories were outrageous, and his sense of humour was unmatched. He believed that if you had a rum and Coke - it better be Coke - not Pepsi. He made everyone feel welcome - always finding one more chair to pull up for a visit. Eric never missed morning coffee with ‘the boys’ - he truly cherished those daily gatherings and the lifelong friendships he shared with his firehall crew, and many lifelong friends.

He spent his winters down south, his summers at the lake, and his life making others laugh. His grandchildren will forever cherish the red convertible rides to Skinner’s, the last-day-of-school tradition that made their childhoods feel magical.

Eric lived with grit, grace, and a twinkle in his eye. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, quiet courage, fierce loyalty, and laughter.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him - but especially by those lucky enough to call him Afi. We know that he passed through Valhalla on his way to his eternal resting place.

The family would like to thank the staff at Selkirk and District General Hospital for the excellent care and compassion for our dad in his final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church on June 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, Selkirk and District Community Foundation or a charity of your choice.
