RENE SYLVESTRE

May 26, 1978 - June 10, 2025

After a long battle with Multiple System Atrophy, it is with a broken heart and sadness that we announce the passing of René Sylvestre on June 10, 2025, at the age of 47 years.

René leaves behind his father Armand (Denise), his grandfather Lucien, his sister Joëlle (Darcy) and brother Serge (Leslee), many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. René was predeceased by his mother Rosanne.

Life wasn't always easy for René. Throughout his life he battled with multiple mental health issues and addictions.

René will be remembered for his warm heart, quiet and gentle character. He was a kind soul with an "I love you" to every one who visited him.

He found joy listening to music and podcasts and being with family and friends. His warm smile and calm presence will be deeply missed.

For the last two years of his life, Rene's illness drew him back closer to his family. He redeveloped a close relationship with his sister Joëlle, who tirelessly stood by his side. René would spend hours every day listening to podcasts and discussing their content with his sister and anyone who visited him.

A private family service and burial was held in his hometown of St. Adolphe.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Our memories of Rene are very fond and leaves a warm spot in our hearts. When Rene came for a visit and stayed with us for a short while we got to see another side of Rene. His eyes spoke through his quietness with a curious twinkle. One particular instance was when he accidentally removed the lid from the coffee grinder, while it was still running! Needless to say we were covered in coffee grinds and all had a good laugh. And who can forget the performance he gave at our wedding as our ring bearer and pianist. He did a tremendous job for such a quiet young boy. Keep playing Rene, as God needed another angel in heaven, and your soul was ready to fly. We love you. Sending our love and hugs to you all!! • I met Rene in the hospital we were living at waiting to find suitable living situations. He was such a sweet, gentle guy and I really loved that about him. Without him that time would have been extra hard. The sweet man with his sweet tooth, always snacking on sour candies with a smile. He will forever be missed. - Posted by: Anna (Friend) on: Jun 22, 2025

  • I remember growing up with Mr. Sylvestre as my teacher from grade 5-12 in Ile des Chenes, Gabrielle Roy. He was a big part of my life and so was the stories of his family. When his beloved Roxanne passed, I witness my hero, was really a human being. The trials and tribulations of life do not come easy. Know that Seirge was truly loved. Sir’s faced would light up at the mention of his family. The man who prepared so many for life, is now faced with a life gone. My deepest sympathies to all the Sylvestre family and to you Sir. May you find comfort in knowing he went to our father, and his mother. - Posted by: Colette Petit (Former student of Sir) on: Jun 22, 2025
