It is with great love that the family of David Evans Ross announces his passing on July 11, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born on August 6, 1933, David spent his early years living in various communities across Manitoba, collecting experiences and stories he would later recount with humour and heart to his grandchildren. In 1964, he and his family found their forever home in Dauphin, Manitoba, where his roots grew deep and his contributions to community life were many.
David built a prosperous and fulfilling accounting career, working at numerous car dealerships across Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, before becoming a partner at McMunn & Yates Building Supplies. After retiring, he and his beloved wife, Holly, embraced their shared sense of adventure, travelling together to many destinations around the world. For many years, they enjoyed winters in their favourite places - Hawaii and La Quinta, California.
A dedicated community member, David gave his time and leadership as President and Life Member of the Dauphin Men’s Curling Club, Secretary Treasurer for Manitoba Junior Curling, and served on the boards of both the Dauphin District Community Foundation and Lorray Manor. His contributions to Lorray Manor extended beyond board service - he was also actively involved in its planning and development. David was previously active in the Dauphin United Church and Meals on Wheels, and coached local baseball and curling in the community. He spent many years as a proud affiliate and executive committee member of the Royal Canadian Legion, where he enjoyed regular mornings of cards and coffee, and where his commitment to service and camaraderie was widely respected.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Holly, and their children: Donald Ross (Marcelle), Cheryl Ann Kennedy (John), June Best (Scott), and Richard Ross.
His legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Derek Ross (Allison Watson), Jenna Kennedy (Ryan Mooney), Alana Kennedy (Jake Flaten), Nolan Kennedy (Shelby), Lauren Best, Allyson Best, and Evan, Holden, and Blake Ross, as well as his great-grandchildren: Niah and Reid Mooney, and Beckett Kennedy.
David is also survived by his sister, Vivian Lepla, his sister-in-law Mary Ann Ferguson (Brian), brother-in-law Eddie Kennedy, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to family, his service to community, and the dry sense of humour he brought into every room - always leaving those around him with a smile. His presence was a gift, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
A private memorial service will be held for immediate family.
Should friends so desire, donations can be made to the Dauphin & District Community Foundation or the Dauphin General Hospital Foundation.
