Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryINGO SCHROEDTER
Ingo Christian Schroedter was born in Germany on December 22, 1957. He was the fourth of five children born to Ernest and Mathilde Schroedter (née Pohl). The family immigrated to Manitoba in 1961 and moved to a farm in the Interlake that same summer.
In 1962 Ingo attended a one room school in Hilbre when the teacher made space for him despite there being no kindergarten so he could learn to speak English. He graduated from Ashern Collegiate and attended the University of Winnipeg on scholarship.
After one year at the U of W, Ingo started working for Motor Coach Industries as a welder. For years he lived at the Oikos Co-Op on Wellington Crescent. It was at this time that he began his 14-year journey from White Belt to Tae Kwon Do Master.
Ingo began his studies anew at Red River Community College in Medical Laboratory Technology, graduating in 1982 and entering the field at the University of Manitoba to work under Dr. Henry Friesen; he was thereafter recruited to take on what would become his life’s work at the HSC Hematopathology Lab where he stayed until retiring in 2018 as a Senior Technologist. Ingo was a pioneer in bringing molecular genetics testing and diagnostic research into the clinical field, as a prolific author with dozens of publications spanning decades, hundreds of citations, and innumerable contributions to research projects. His range of interests and expertise was vast, from rat pituitary glands to women’s health, and he was respected for his creativity and unique approach to finding solutions. He would often say, “DNA is my life”.
On August 6, 1983, he married Iris Margaret Perchaluk. They have two children, Christian Ingo Perchaluk Schroedter and Artemis Iris Perchaluk Schroedter. Ingo cherished his family above all else.
Ingo loved hunting, foraging, and competitive target shooting. He generously shared meat from the hunt with his friends and their relatives. He was a big proponent of independent farms and the back to the land movement, and as a man of action considered it his duty to fight systems of oppression often forming personal connections with those in need. He was everyone’s best friend.
Ingo is survived by his wife Iris, children Christian (Johsa Manzanilla) and Artemis (Pat Neufeld), grandson Jürgen, siblings: Monika Tritthart, Erika O’Sullivan (Jim Miller), Peter Schroedter, Dagmar Schroedter (Gene Smoliak), and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Ernie Schroedter and Tillie (Pohl) Schroedter; father-in-law, Norman Perchaluk; brother-in-law, Charlie Tritthart; and his beloved grandson, Wolfgang.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ingo’s memory to Ducks Unlimited Canada and Willow Place.

Condolences to Ingo’s family, Iris (wife) Christian and Artemis (children) as well as his grandson and all of his friends and relatives. We began hunting with Ingo back in 2019/2020 out at the farm. He was very helpful and taught us how to field dress a deer. We both got our first shots with Ingo and he couldn’t be more happy. He always said “okay you guys will do the next one alone”, but always hopped in to help us in cleaning our deer. He was very hospitable and always made sure we had a good hunt, 5 star hunting trips ever since we began going out. There was nothing like frying up some fresh meat with our buddy Ingo. This years hunt will be in honour of Ingo and all his wisdom and traditions that he carried. Rest Easy to our hunting pal. - Posted by: Justyn & Jeremy Parsons (Hunting Pals) on: Jul 28, 2025

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of my co-worker, friend and mentor. I worked with Ingo for several years in the Molecular Hematopathology section at HSC. Ingo had a bright mind, inquiring soul, and a big warm heart. I learned a great deal under his tutelage and will be forever grateful to him for his support. Ingo often spoke affectionately of his family and how proud he was of them and of all their various undertakings. My heartfelt condolences to Iris, Christian and Artemis and to all his other beloved friends and family. Maybe someday hopefully if I get “up there” we can chat again together about the latest advances in PCR Technology over a tall nucleotide cocktail. May your Dominant genes rest in peace my friend… Liz Armitage - Posted by: Liz Armitage (Co-worker, friend) on: Jul 28, 2025

My deepest condolences to Iris and the entire family. I have known Ingo for almost 40 years. We both worked in the same capacity at UofM Dept of Physiology and therefore participated in the same events there for many years and on few occasions in social events as well. He certainly was an exceptional individual on many counts both on personal and professional level. It is hard to believe that he is gone, this is a shocking news to me. He will not be forgotten. - Posted by: Barbara Iwasiow (work colleague) on: Jul 26, 2025

My sincere condolences to Ingo’s entire family. Growing up 1/2 mile away, if Ingo (and Dagmar) were not at their house you could find them at our house or playing at the “Rockies” half way in between. There are soo many memories of Ingo that I will cherish. I, along with my mom are sending our love to you all. ❤️ - Posted by: Joanne Sander (Childhood Neighbor) on: Jul 26, 2025

My condolences on such a sudden loss. What an impressive man. It's incredible how close to the tree apples sometimes fall. To see his picture, I would have been able to guess that Christian was his son. He must have been very proud that he is also following closely in his field. Big hugs to Johsa & Jürgen. - Posted by: Colin Jesson (Friend of family) on: Jul 26, 2025
