Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLARRY GARIEPY
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Larry Gariepy who passed away on July 29, 2025, at the age of 64.
Larry was a father, son, a brother, and a friend. He was born in Winnipeg on January 20, 1961, to Fernand and Evelyn Gariepy.
He shared a love of hockey with his dad and older brother Rene. He was so talented that he received an invitation to try out for the Boston Bruins at just fifteen years old. However, God had a different plan.
He had a brilliant mind and would read encyclopedias from front to back. He could recite the information as though he had invented it. He truly had a way of dazzling others with his knowledge. He had a sharp mind and a very sensitive soul. In his best moments, a tenderness that touched those around him. His family loved him and never stopped hoping for peace in his life.
Larry faced more challenges than most. He lived with schizoaffective disorder and battled addiction for many years - difficult burdens that often shaped the course of his adult life. But these hardships did not define the whole of him.
In later years, Larry grew especially close to his father, Fernand, who predeceased him in 2014 - a loss that profoundly affected him. Now reunited with his father, his family finds comfort knowing he is at peace.
He is survived by his daughter Amy Lynn, mother, Evelyn Gariepy; his brother Rene Gariepy (Lorraine); sisters Rachelle Frobisher (Raymond), Lori Rogalsky (Ken), and Cara Kinley (Shayne); Uncle Father Gilbert Gariepy, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. In 2023 we discovered a half sister Marie Nagy (Bob). The family also extends heartfelt thanks to friends Roy Smith and Gerard Patenaude for their steadfast support.
Larry's story is one of perseverance, quiet strength, and the unshakable love for his family. In his final week, He faced the end of his journey with courage and acceptance. The family takes comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, free from the weight he carried for so long.
A funeral will be held to honor his life and say the final goodbye at: E.J. Coutu & Co. Funeral Directors on Friday August 8 at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Larry’s name to organizations supporting mental health and addiction recovery.
