Peacefully, at St. Boniface Hospital, Annette Le Néal (née Bosc) passed away on July 29, 2025, at 99 years of age.
She leaves to mourn her children, Carole, Gilbert (Betty Scott) and Jocelyne (Richard Fukasawa), grandsons, Philippe and Robert Le Néal, brother Lucien (Anne Brown) and several nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her father Rémy Bosc, her mother Ange (née Magne), her husband Josaphat Le Néal, her brothers, Antonio (Louise Windsor), Marcien (Cécile Laroche), Jean and Pierre, her sisters, Hélène (Luc Trudel), Évelyne (Soeur du Sauveur), Isabelle (Guy Augert) and Claudette, her brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as Jean-Claude Farge, Carole’s beloved soulmate.
Born in Rathwell, Manitoba, on October 10, 1925, Annette earned a diploma from the Central Normal School in Winnipeg and taught at the Lees country school, located near Rathwell, for three years until her marriage to Josaphat Le Néal in 1946. The couple settled in Notre Dame de Lourdes, where Joe operated a garage and owned Oliver farm machinery, Shell gasoline and General Motors vehicle dealerships for over 20 years, while Annette served as a substitute teacher at the local elementary and high schools and later worked as assistant postmistress. Annette and Joe moved to St. Vital in 1990, where Joe died in 2002, and Annette continued to reside there until she moved to Villa Aulneau in St. Boniface in 2024.
Keenly interested in genealogy and blessed with a phenomenal memory, Annette maintained close ties with several relatives, both in Canada and in France, and happily took part in all family gatherings. She was always deeply engaged in the community through her involvement in the local 4-H Club and the Écho Notre Dame news bulletin, for example, as well as in the Mountain School Division’s poetry, drama, music and rhythmic activities festivals. She also served as secretary in the committee set up and presided by Joe to build the Foyer Notre-Dame—a project they were both deeply committed to. After their move to St. Vital, Annette served for many years as treasurer of her condo association and secretary of the Club Emma in St. Eugene Parish.
A funeral service will be held in St. Emile Catholic Church, 556 St. Anne’s Road, on Thursday, August 7, with the eulogy and video tribute beginning at 10:30 a.m. followed by mass at 11:00 a.m. The interment will take place at 5:00 p.m. in the Notre-Dame Parish Cemetery. The service will be live streamed at www.afh.ca.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
The family would like to thank the staff at Home Care Services Winnipeg and St. Boniface Hospital for their excellent care, the staff and residents of Villa Aulneau for their warm welcome, as well as Brunel and Marie-Rose Girardin and Mariette Ferré for the support they provided to our dear mother over the years.
