ROBERT JAMES MCINTYRE

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of Robert James McIntyre after a valiant battle with cancer on Sunday, August 10, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Rob is survived by his loving wife Cathy, his dedicated sons, Neil and Ryan, his parents, Joan and James, his brother Cliff and his sisters, Lyn and Katherine. Rob is also survived by numerous relatives and so many dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Stephen.

Rob was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on July 12, 1958, and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1968. He would go on to earn awards in German and Mathematics and joined the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets in his teenage years.

Rob joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1978 and after training as an Air Traffic Controller at CFB Comox, he was deployed to the Baden-Sollingen base in Germany attaining the rank of Master Corporal and later served as a Canadian peacekeeper with the United Nations. After returning to Canada, Rob would obtain a Radio Operators Certification and served under NORAD on the DEW Line in the Arctic.

Rob returned to Winnipeg in 1986 to the love of his life, Cathy and graduated from Red River College as a Computer Analyst Programmer. Rob and Cathy would later marry and settle in Winnipeg's St. Vital neighbourhood, where they raised two sons.

He had an enormous influence on those around him with his love of science and science fiction where he'd always be lending out his huge library. He also really loved camping with his family and friends in the Whiteshell and Lake 7 Resort.

Rob retired last year from the Canada Revenue Agency after nearly a decade of public service.

A celebration of Rob's life will be held on Sunday, August 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. We ask those in attendance to not bring flowers as this is a scent-free event.
