MARY GUZDA

(nee FECULAK)

September 14,1922 - August 23, 2025

Mary Guzda (nee Feculak) passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at the Bethany in Didsbury, Alberta at the age of 102 with family by her side.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Alex Guzda, her parents Klemko and Ksenka Feculak and her brothers Steve and Bill Feculak. She is survived by her son Ken (Arlene) Madden, Alberta, grandson Brad (Wendy) and great grandchildren Mack and Karly of Nashville, TN, granddaughter Christine (Jim) great-grandchildren Nikola and Kelvin Gamlin of Airdrie, Alberta, another son Brian (Laura), grandson Nigel of Duncan, B.C., David of Campbell River, B.C. and Joanne (Chris)McNeill and great-grandson Brett of Campbell River, B.C., and a daughter Linda Molnar from New Westminster, B.C., granddaughter Jennifer (Kevin) and great-granddaughter Ivy Lynn Gouwenberg of Kelowna, B.C., and granddaughter Cassandra (Rob) McIvor of Kelowna, B.C.

Mary was born and raised in the Village of Brooklands which was attached to the City of Winnipeg. She lost her mother at an early age and became the family homemaker. Times were very difficult during the depression, and the family had to work hard. Growing up her mother had bought her a long heavy winter coat. The boys in the neighbourhood ask her if she would be their goaltender as the puck would not hurt when it hit her. Because of this background she has had two professional and one up and coming goaltenders in the family. She was very proud of all of her children and grandchildren. Alex and Mary loved to travel and see Ken and Brian when they were transferred to different locations with the RCMP. Mary belonged to the William Hall Ladies Club and the Holy Ghost Church Ladies Club and other committees within Brooklands. She loved gardening, was an excellent knitter, loved doing crafts, and was an exceptional cook being especially noted for her cabbage rolls. Alex and Mary enjoyed numerous seniors bus trips, and they really loved bingo. At the Bethany in Didsbury she was known as the “Bingo Queen” because of frequent wins. At 102 years of age, she played four cards flawlessly and then helped players on either side of her with their cards. She was highly regarded by the other residents and the staff who provided exceptional and compassionate care.

Funeral service will be held at the Korban Funeral Chapel 907 Main Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba R2W3P4 on September 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a meal and interment.
