Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT SCHMIDT
Surrounded by his family, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Albert Schmidt, left in the early hours of September 5, 2025, to be with his Saviour, Jesus.
Born on January 20, 1939, in Neu Strymba, Romania, Albert was the fourth of five surviving children of Katharina and Friedrich Schmidt. The family immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg in 1951. Albert married his sweetheart, Edith Dreher, in 1962, and together they built a loving family with four children and eight grandchildren (and a great-grandson on the way).
Albert worked many years in the printing profession, retiring in 2001 when he faced his first battle with cancer. God healed him then, and we enjoyed 24 more beautiful years with him. He was a hardworking man, dedicated to providing for his family and defined by his deep devotion to his Lord Jesus, his loved ones, and his church. Albert was also a passionate golfer and enjoyed many games with his family and friends.
He was a quiet man, yet never without a sense of humour and a wise answer for any question. He cherished time with his children and grandchildren, who were his great joy.
Albert is survived by his wife Edith, children, Glenn (Sylvia), Ronald (Lorraine), Judy Tata (Jim) and daughter-in-law Karen Wiebe (Rick), and sister Adeline Daher, brother-in-law Erich Blum and sister-in-law Inge Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his son Charles, sisters Amalie Blum and Susanne Hintz, and brother Ottwin. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Moriah Van Leeuwen (Jonathan), Gianna Rempel (Sawyer), Keeley Wiebe, Aaron Schmidt (Anna), Joanna Prochnau (Clayton), Erika Tata, Ian Tata and Charlee Schmidt.
A funeral service is planned for September 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment to follow, all are welcome.
