JAMES ARTHUR GUNNING

September 15, 1948 -

September 23, 2025

It is with profound sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of James Arthur Gunning on September 23, 2025.

James is survived by his loving wife Audrey (nee Rach) and loving son Trevor, sister Noni and brother Ross. Also surviving him are Audrey’s family, Elaine, Sandi and Les, Beverley and Errol, and many nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle James.

He was predeceased by mom Mary, dad William, sister Renie, brothers Tom and Roy; Audrey’s parents Robert and Eleanor, and brother-in-law Erwin.

James grew up in Gull Lake, where he attended elementary school, then Beausejour Collegiate Institute. Upon grad, he moved to Winnipeg for employment with International Harvester, then back to Gull Lake to join the family business, Gunning Gravel. In 1977 he began a 35-year span of employment with Allied Systems, driving locally and long distance, delivering new vehicles.

James and Audrey married in October 1967. In 1968, the two became three when Trevor was born. The family adventures began.

Many road trips were taken as a family; Alberta, B.C., Ontario and many throughout the U.S., visiting family and friends, and dirt racetracks.

Regular trips to follow race events in the U.S., their favourite being Florida Speedweeks. Many friends were formed at racetracks including the local Manitoba tracks.

Bowling and golfing were also a big part of the entertainment scene, more friendship’s made along the way.

James and Audrey built a beautiful life together, wonderful friends and family, shared interests, and most importantly, lots of love.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in his memory to the Humane Society. James loved his dogs (Punky who crossed the rainbow bridge in 2018), Willow, our golden, and Ava, our teacup aussie, who both will miss him so much.

Cremation has taken place, and no formal service will be held.

Many thanks to staff at Selkirk Regional Health Centre, and the doctors that have cared for him over the years.

Our hearts are truly broken, but we know he can now breathe easy and be pain free.
