DONALD GEORGE MARSHALL

Donald George Marshall passed away suddenly on September 23, 2025, at the age of 92 years. Donnie was born to Emmanuel and Mary Manchulenko on July 3, 1933, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Donnie will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Donna Mae Bennell (Peter); his son, Donald Blaine Nichols; his stepson, Ron Jennings; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Sydney, Nicholas, Arthur, Tamara, Kurt, Alexis, Ashley, and Neal; eight great-step-grandchildren; stepdaughter-in-law, Susan Munt; great-nephew, Garth Danchuk (Cindy); two great-great-nieces; one great-great-great-niece; and second cousins, Leslie Harris and Janice Macholz. Donnie will also be missed by his dear friends, Cathie Marzoff and Bob Ramsay, and he was always grateful for his very special neighbours, Ray and Maria.

Donnie was predeceased by his loving wife, Marion; stepsons, Walter Munt and Kurt Munt; stepdaughter, Token Snikeris; step-grandchildren, Kris and Zachary; parents, Emmanuel and Mary Manchulenko; siblings, Kathleen Danchuk, Orla Klowak, and Matthew Manchulenko; nephews, Tom Danchuk, Gary Klowak, and Ken Manchulenko; and niece, Marilyn Crakewich.

Donald was employed as a supervisor by the Winnipeg Water Works Company in his early years. However, never afraid of a challenge and being an entrepreneur at heart, he subsequently left that employment to own and operate several successful businesses and hotels until his retirement, chief among which were ABC Temporary Help and the Patricia and Bell Hotels.

One of Donnie’s biggest loves was owning and racing horses, and for many years he could be found at Assiniboia Downs, participating in all aspects of the sport. Donald loved people and people loved Donald, and his home was always open to everyone. During winters, he and Marion would often travel to their Florida residence, where their Winnipeg friends were always welcome. In Donnie’s later years, his greatest pleasure was going for regular Saturday morning brunches at the Garwood Grill with Garth, sometimes joined by Desiree, Trent, Caitlynn, and his much-beloved Ella Rose; these Saturdays were the highlight of his week.

Donnie had a personality and a sense of humour that were second to none, and wherever he went, his cheerful nature engaged even strangers. Keenly intelligent and fun-loving, his devotion and loyalty to family and friends knew no bounds. Good-natured, kind, and a man who lived to help others, he was supportive and generous to a fault, and was a rock for countless people. A very deeply-but-quietly spiritual man, Donnie always saw the best in us all, and we whose lives he touched were blessed, indeed.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:35-36

And that was how Donald George Marshall lived his life.

Interment took place 11:30 a.m., Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
