Ian was born in Brandon, Manitoba on December 8, 1947, and died in Ottawa on September 21, 2025 at the age of 77.
He was the beloved partner of Patricia Bailey, much loved father of Anthony Rankin (Caroline Holmqvist) and Sabrina Rankin, fun grandpa of Iris and August Rankin and stepfather of Peter Gibson (d. 2022) and Emily Gibson. He was predeceased by his brother Keith Rankin and leaves his sister, Joan Richardson and six nieces and nephews and their families.
The family will host a celebration of Ian’s life at a date and location to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ian’s memory to the Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities or the Parkinson Society Ottawa.
