LARS ELROY BRACKEN

It is with profound sadness that the family of Lars Elroy Bracken announce his passing on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the age of 85 years in Ottawa, Ontario.

Lars is lovingly remembered by his sons Ralph (Lana) and Bruce (Mary), his daughters Barb (Phil), Glenda and Trina. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Aleisha, Christine (Shane), Brett, Kurt (Bedros), Michael, Steven, Samantha (Terry), Gary (Anastasia), Alexandria, Genevieve, and his beloved great-grandchildren Eli, Annaliese, Griffin, Lily, Sven, Emma, Amelia, Parker, and Landyn. He is also survived by his treasured brothers Rusty (Bev) and Lockie (Elaine), his dear sister Wilma (Jim) and many nieces and nephews.

Lars was predeceased by Noreen, his dear wife of 65 years, his loving parents Howard and Helen (Jim), his brother Elgin (Karen), grandson Eric, sons-in-law Gary and Jeffrey, great-granddaughter Helena, great-grandson Eric, and his parents-in-law John and Pauline Wonnek

Lars was born in Vita, Manitoba. Shortly after Lars moved to the Etomami district near Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan where his family operated a grain and dairy farm. Lars attended Moose Haven, a one-room schoolhouse, and later high school in Hudson Bay. Lars met his wife Noreen in Winnipeg in 1957. They married in 1959 and began their family soon after. In 1964 they returned to the family farm.

In addition to farming, Lars worked full time at Saskatchewan Forest Products and Weyerhaeuser as a heavy-duty mechanic. Lars retired in 2003, and he and Noreen moved into a newly built home in Hudson Bay. In 2013, they relocated to Ottawa, Ontario. In his later years, Lars became passionate about family genealogy through Ancestry, creating detailed and enlightening family trees for the Bracken, Rasmussen, Wonnek and Kuhn lineages.

Interment and a Celebration of Life will take place in Hudson Bay for both Lars and Noreen at a later date.
