JACK ROBINSON

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Jack “Jake” Robinson at Fairview Personal Care Home on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at 94 years of age.

Jack was born in Kelvington, Saskatchewan to Elizabeth and James Robinson on November 28, 1930. The family moved to Hudson Bay and that is where Jack grew up to be the fun loving, mischievous prankster that he was. He had many nick-names over the years, Snaky Jake being one of them, and if he gave you one (Lantern), then you knew you were liked by the jokester.

Jack worked as a farm hand and then tried his hand at mining in northern Manitoba before he settled on the railroad. He hired on with CNR in 1952 as a fireman (prepping/shovelling coal) and moved on to being a brakeman and conductor. He worked out of Kamsack and Canora and then he and Elsie moved the family to The Pas in 1969. The Bay Line and grain rushes kept him on the rails until 1991 when he retired after 39 years of service. As a conductor he always had candies in his pocket for the kids and an extra sandwich for someone in need.

The comradery between his CN buddies was endless; the jokes they played on each other were legendary, and the friendships everlasting. There was always someone to visit, some place to go, and he could never drive by the yard office and not stop in. Jake gave back to his community through his involvement and service with the BPO Elks Club in The Pas.

Dad was good in the kitchen; he made a great stew, loved to barbeque and canned jackfish he caught ice fishing. He could find all the grocery bargains and make all the necessary stops, not thinking about the gas he burnt. Dad loved music; he was always drumming his hands to a tune, snapping his fingers, or whistling along; and he sure could dance. Once retired, Jack and June enjoyed many trips to Mexico, Vegas and bus trips to the States.

If you knew Jack well, you knew he couldn’t sit still for long; right up until his last days he was cruising the halls in his chair, ever curious to see what was going on and ready to chat with the other residents. Jack was cared for with compassion by the committed and dedicated staff of the 5th floor health care team of Fairview; we are forever thankful and indebted.

Jack was predeceased by his wife June; siblings, Bob, Herb, Jim, Laura and infant Agnes; son Barry; and nephews, Gordie and Terry. Jack will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Patty (Ed) Klimchuk, Linda (Rudy) Fast; grandchildren, Trevor (Ginette) MacInnis, Tara (Nathan) Toews, Brenan Klimchuk; great-grands, Avielle and Vonn; as well as his daughter's mother, Elsie Robinson; nieces, Betty-Lou, Linda, Margot, Sandra, Leslie, Leanne and nephews, Rob and Bert; Affleck step-children, Lynn (Jack), Don (Anna-Maria), Jim (Bev) and Rodney; step-grandchildren, Ben, Paul, Erin, Lauren, Caedence, Lindsay, Douglas, Leeanna and their families.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, 332 8th Street, Brandon on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. If friends wish, donations in Jake’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 4B-457-9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 1K2 or charity of your choice.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can steal. Traditional Irish Toast.
