Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Anthony "Tony" Edward Purvis on October 11, 2025 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 82 years.
Surviving Anthony is his beloved wife Kary of 55 years; daughter Tamara (Bruce) Large; sons, Mark (Karen) Purvis, Tom (Jen) Purvis and Robbie Purvis as well as niece Julia and nephew Charles.
He is predeceased by his brother and wife, Charles and Madge and his parents, Charles and Mary.

ANTHONY(TONY) EDWARD PURVIS
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dad, Anthony (Tony) Edward Purvis, on October 11, 2025. He passed away peacefully with family at his side after a long battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Karoline (Cary) Purvis, Children, Mark (Karen) Purvis, Tom (Jen) Purvis, Tamara (Bruce) Large, Robbie Purvis, his 5 grandchildren, Zarah, Zenah, Alex, Zaydah and Nicholas, his niece Julia, nephew Charles and their respective families. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Mary Purvis, brother Charles and sister-in-law Marjorie. Tony will also be mourned deeply by his faithful band community and the members of his Co-Living family.
Born in Hull, England, Tony moved to Winnipeg in 1967 where he met Cary soon after and together raised their 4 children. He worked for many years at Pollard Banknote and retired at Princess Auto. He was active for many years as a Scout Leader, a member of the Winnipeg Rifles Band and became involved in many community bands in his later years.
Tony will be deeply missed by his family and the many friends who had the pleasure of knowing him, both in Canada and England.
A special thank you goes out to the Palliative Care team from the community and St. Boniface Hospital for taking such great care of Tony and treating him with dignity in his final weeks.
Service and reception will be held on November 4, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Prairie Spirit United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, Winnipeg.

I never played in a band that didn't have Tony in it. I shall miss him enormously. He was so much more than a bandmate. He gave each band a personality and energy not to mention positivity. I was deeply saddened to read of Tony's passing. Although it's been years since I've worked at Pollard Banknote, it was like a close knit family back then and Tony was quite memorable for his great smile, calm, quiet and friendly personality. I met Tony while working at Princess Auto many years ago. He was a very generous person with a great sense of humor. We would occasionally get together with a small group of friends for dinners/drinks, and it was always a great time. He would spoil us with his homemade wine at Christmas, which was always appreciated. Even though I had not seen him for a few years, he was always in my thoughts. I'll never forget when he ordered a "Dark Rum & Coke" one day @ Olive Garden and I thought he said "Dr Demento." We had a good laugh, and I never let him forget it. Sincerest Condolences to his wife, Kary and the rest of his family and friends. Heaven has gained an angel. Rest in Peace Tony. Tony was my closest friend in Winnipeg sharing both British and Military back grounds. As a retiring Bandmaster of the Royal Green Jackets I met Tony who had connections with the Winnipeg Rifles, Westwood and North-winds community Bands in 2000. Tony was involved also with the German Band and was later very busy playing trumpet for all the groups. He had the ability to organize any challenge before him- I could never say no when Tony asked you to do something. He was respected by all. Tony had a vision for the future and saw all of his projects succeed . After moving to Calgary I kept in touch with Tony, who kept me up to date with all the latest stories from Winnipeg.
