It is with great sadness that the family of Antonio “Tony” Ribeiro Marques announces his passing on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, at the age of 82 years old.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Isaura Marques; his daughter Teresa Marques Guerra (Victor) and grandchildren Belinda, Antonio and Jeremie. Left to mourn in Portugal is his sister Elisa.
Antonio was predeceased by his parents, Luis Marques Ferro, Luisa Miranda and his siblings, Maria, Aparecida, Arminda, Delfina, and Manuel.
He also leaves behind many friends and family in both Portugal and France.
Antonio was born on April 24, 1943, in Pederneira, Urqueira, Portugal, and was the youngest of six siblings. He had immigrated to Canada in October of 1966 and eventually settled in Winnipeg. Upon completing his vocational training at Red River College and passing his apprenticeships, Antonio began his career as a journeyman welder for the Boilermakers Local 555, which spanned for many years.
Antonio was a talented welder and dedicated much of his time to his craft. He applied his trade at various jobsites across Canada and the United States. He was a very hardworking man, and even after retirement he still took on a few extra jobs. Sitting still was not an option for him.
Outside of work, Antonio enjoyed getting together with his friends and catching up over a cup of coffee or a glass of homemade wine. He also loved family gatherings for special occasions. Antonio loved all of his grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. In his pastime, Antonio loved gardening and working in his garage doing small jobs for friends. While doing these jobs, you could always hear him whistling to a song that he liked. Antonio was a jovial person and liked to joke around with his friends.
We would like to acknowledge the outstanding care that Antonio received at St. Joseph’s personal care home, and the many visits he had from friends and family.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin St. North, on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. Viewing will precede the mass, starting at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
