SHIRLEY ANN HEMING

In Loving Memory

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Heming on September 6, 2025, at the age of 75. Shirley passed away peacefully with her family by her side, following a courageous year-long battle with brain cancer.

Predeceased by her father, Edward Wareham, Shirley is lovingly remembered by her mother, Devona Sherman; her sons, Chad Richardson and Evan Richardson (Michelle Stachniak); her cherished grandchildren, Jake, Griffin and Liv; her brother, Terry Wareham (Carlou Wareham); as well as other family members and friends.

Shirley was born on May 6, 1950, in Brandon, Manitoba growing up on the family farm near the town of Justice. She married Ronald Richardson in 1968 and had two sons together, Chad and Evan. The young family started in Winnipeg, Manitoba moving to Delta, British Columbia and eventually ending up in Victoria, British Columbia. Shirley and Ronald divorced in 1985, and Shirley moved back home to Winnipeg to raise her sons closer to family. When she arrived back to Winnipeg she got a job as a Clerk with the Queen's Bench Printer for the Manitoba Government. She worked her way up in the ranks of the civil service; to improve her life and that of her children. In October of 2000, she married Keith Heming whom she later divorced in 2009. Shirley retired in January of 2012, after 28 years in government, she had worked her way up to an Administrative Officer in charge of the financial program dealing with the leasing of government buildings and office space. A few years after retirement Shirley decided to move back to Victoria in 2013 to enjoy the retired life; she would once again move back to Winnipeg in 2021 to take a more active part in her grandchildren and sons’ lives.

As a mother and grandmother, she was generous and loving, always thinking about others before herself. She found great joy in gardening, landscaping, golfing and traveling. Her warmth, determination, and adventurous spirit touched everyone who knew her. She is dearly missed by her family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, located at 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, Manitoba. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Shirley’s ashes will be laid to rest at a later date, during a private family gathering.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to CancerCare Manitoba, the Palliative Care Ward at Riverview Health Centre, and the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for the compassionate care and support provided to Shirley and her family in her final months.
