It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother Grazia Spezzano, 85, of Winnipeg, Manitoba. She passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital, with her family by her side, on November 10, 2025.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Antonino Spezzano; her children, Francesco Spezzano (Bonnie West), Anna Zdrill (Kevin), Vincenzo Spezzano ( Katlyn), and Caterina Tavares (Carlos); and her grandchildren, Matthew, Chanel, Sophia, Antonino Luis Manual, Vincenzo, Anthony, Daniel, Antonino, Grazia, Luca and numerous nieces, nephews along with countless family and friends in Canada, Italy and Australia.
She was predeceased by her parents Vincenzo and Caterina Bueti, brothers Giuseppe (Giuseppina) Bueti, Diego Bueti and Rocco (Gail) Bueti, sisters Filomena (Francesco) Bova and Maria Angela (Francesco) Licandro, father and mother-in-law Francesco (Anna) Spezzano, sister-in-law Santina (Rocco) Albanese, brother-in-law Giorgio Cotroneo and nephew Vince Bova.
Born on November 23, 1939, in San Roberto, Reggio Calabria, Italy, Grazia lived a life filled with love for her family and her heritage. She was the youngest of six siblings in a close-knit family. As the youngest, she helped care for her nieces and nephews while her older siblings worked, learning from an early age the importance of family, compassion, and responsibility — values she carried throughout her life.
In 1962, Grazia immigrated to Canada to join her brothers who had already settled in Winnipeg. Shortly after her arrival, she began working as a seamstress in a sewing factory. Later, she pursued a new passion as a hairdresser, a career she cherished for its creativity and the joy it brought her clients.
In July 1971, Grazia married the love of her life, Antonino Spezzano. Together they built a beautiful life, raising four children who were the center of her world. Grazia dedicated herself to creating a warm and loving home, always filled with laughter, good food, and family. She especially loved summer weekends at Grand Beach, where family and friends would gather to share stories, good food, and enjoy each other’s company.
Faith was an essential part of Grazia’s life. As a child, she had once dreamed of becoming a nun, though her father gently guided her down another path. Later, as a devoted wife and mother, she remained deeply connected to her faith and her community, attending Holy Rosary Church regularly and volunteering her time whenever she could. It brought her great joy and fulfillment to serve her church and congregation.
She also had a profound passion for music and singing, often crafting her own songs of faith that reflected her deep spirituality and brought comfort and joy to those around her, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved beyond measure and would do anything them.
Grazia was also an exceptional cook who delighted in bringing people together around the kitchen table. Sunday dinners at Nonna and Nonno’s house became a cherished family tradition — filled with fabulous food, conversation, and laughter — a tradition that continues to unite the family she so dearly loved.
Grazia will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering devotion to her family, and the warmth and love she shared with everyone she met. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on forever in the hearts of her loved ones.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with condolences beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, entombment to follow at Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, Manitoba.
Pallbearers will be Vincenzo Bueti , Vincent Bueti, Pino Licandro, Justin Bova, Paul Bueti and Francesco Albanese.
If friends so desire contributions may be made to a Charity of Your Choice in her memory.
